I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while. There's a fair bit of choice from TEC, Motone etc but decided I liked this one from Evotech the most.
Evotech sump guard fitted. It's taller at the front, so covers a larger area, up to the bottom of the radiator. It fits more snugly between the frame rails than some of the others and gives a fraction more ground clearance.
Yes, it's powder coated aluminium. Pretty straightforward to fit once you've downloaded the online instructions, although a second pair of hands would probably have made it easier.
I then decided to splash out on a radiator cover. Nothing wrong with the original but I liked the look of this one.
Bought the engine protector I liked the look of it on your photos. I spent some time putting several coats of paint on the mounting bracket hopefully will delay the dreaded rust!
Some follow up info on the sump guard. In September I took the bike on the Malle Rally Land's End to John O'Groats 6 day motorcycle adventure. Including the ride down to the start I covered 2021 miles, a lot on narrow B-roads and single track, with much on gravel and stones (hence 6 days!). The sump guard took a pounding, far more than it normally would on ordinary roads. The powder coat was blasted off a section at the front, through to the metal. It's ally so won't rust and I quite like the battle-scarred look so it's staying that way. If it hadn't been there the engine paint would have borne the brunt.
Hi there! Is it possible to instal the Motone sump guard only with the side stand or rear paddock stand?
I can't answer your question exactly because as you can see I fitted the Evotech sump guard but I can't think of a reason why the Motone guard won't fit 'with only the side stand', by which I'm guessing you mean without a main stand. I don't see why a paddock stand has got anything to do with it. That lifts on the swing arm or axle bobbins (TEC parts make one for certain Triumphs..I've got one), so is nowhere near a sump guard. You could buy from Motone and send it back if necessary or contact them and ask the question. I find Sam at Motone is usually pretty quick to reply.
Looks very neat. Better than the TEC item which I had previously consideredThanks for posting the feedback too. I think I may also get the EVOTECH one
FWIW I also got a TEC guard just as soon as I got my ST late last year. Slapped it on even before my first ride. It'll do its job fine but you have to remove them for oil changes. I'll have a paddock stand by the time I'm due for that so it won't be too too much of a hassle but if I could do it all over again I'd definitely take that into consideration and go with something that alleviates this. My primary concern was protecting the bike so I don't regret the purchase.
That's an interesting point. I don't actually know if the Evotech guard covers the drain plug and will need to be removed to do an oil change. It may well do. If you take your bike to a dealer for servicing, then removal and refitting of the sump guard is going to add to the time taken. They won't know about it of course until the bike is up on the ramp. I wonder if anyone has had any feedback from dealers with regards to accessories like this increasing length of servicing times.
Here's quick install video on a Gasser guard by Adam Croll, which looks somewhat similar in configuration to Evotech... I/E- forward positioned. As is stated, the switch from TEC to Gasser was due to the oil change dilemma.
Might have been a good idea to clean his radiator before fitting the guard. Not sure I like the look of these two together. Perhaps either but not both. If you only change the oil once or twice a year it's not really a big deal to remove that TEC sump guard, it's easier to take off than the Evotech guard..and it gives you a chance to clean off the crap under there.
Just had my Street Twin serviced they never mentioned the Evotec guard and nothing showed up on the invoice so it can't have interfered with the oil change.
I know this is a bit late to the topic, but I would add that I had my servicing done in September and they didn't add anything to the Triumph fixed price for the servicing, either. I actually came here looking for a fitting guide (I have the Triumph aluminium bash plate on mine) as I got the bike extremely mucky today and need to take it off for thorough cleaning the underside of the bike. Probably not that difficult, but still...
