A friend of mine has opened a bike clothing shop in the Route 1066 Cafe near Hastings. He invited me down for their opening day. The shop is really cool, and caters for all types of biker, and is a stockist for MotoGirl female biker kit, which is awesome to see some decent kit out there for the lasses that has proper armour.
Anyhows, I took a spin down there on my 765, and had a chat with Sam; the owner:

Fun video, Hippo-Drones! :grinning: Looks like a fun ride route, great weather, and a nice new shop. Thanks for sharing the day's adventure with us.

But, I have to say, that cafe name and sign look "suspiciously" similar to the historic Route 66 from Chicago to LA in the U.S. ;) Which came first, I wonder?

The real tie in @Sandi T. is the strap line on the road side sign which I couldn’t see in the video
To be read whilst humming the Route 66 tune is Get Your Chips At 1066 - which always makes me laugh when I see it

Oh my gosh, half ton, I had to look up the Hillman Imp after reading your post and this is what I saw. I laughed so hard I nearly fell off my chair! :joy::joy::joy:

Yeah, @half ton, you're right! If I scrunch up my eyes real tight and imagine real hard, I can see the resemblance. ;):joy:

Mock ye not the wonderful Imp - and its even more wonderful siblings the Chamois and Stiletto! They were great cars with a rear mounted 875 motor that was derived from a Coventry Climax unit (I think) driving the rear wheels. Great fun cars - providing you had sufficientt weight over the front wheels to prevent them unloading too quickly in hard driven corners. Happy memories.

It's so interesting to think that there were cars with engines smaller than all but one of the motorcycles I've owned! With those light front ends, could one do wheelies with the Chamois and the Stiletto, Adie P? ;)

My brother had a Hillman Imp...seem to remember it had a hand operated floor throttle and a steering column throttle .......or is my memory playing tricks?

Yep ...... and, inevitably, in all the wrong places! Sixties steel was not exactly resilient.

Your memory is definitely playing some cruel tricks. The choke was, unusually, floor mounted. The foot controls were all standard floor positions - unless your brother had one modified for a disabled user.
