@Octoberon does the Portsmouth Bilbao ferry really take over 30 hours? Just been checking routes for a trip and couldn’t believe it

I was on the Bilbao to Portsmouth ferry last year and it took 24 hours.
    Boring as hell!

IIRC Brittany Ferries operate two sailings, Cruise @24 hours and economie @ 30 hours, just be careful of which sailing you book.

There's one that puts into La Rochelle (I think) for a crew change.

    I agree Martin.

With the late afternoon sailings I was ok that evening but the following day seemed to drag and I also found it boring, couldn’t wait to get off and get riding.

I think there's one that takes over 30 hours but the one I'm aiming for is a smidge under 24 hours. They're all overnight sailings.

Never heard of Brittany Ferries doing that Tim.

I know another French ferry used to dock into the French west coast, can’t remember what ferry company it was

Taken from the Brittany Ferry's web site

** The Sunday departure departs at 22:30 and is a two night crossing. The ship stops in Roscoff on Monday morning for 1 hr 30 mins to allow for a change of crew and to load supplies (passengers may not disembark). The ship arrives in Bilbao on Tuesday morning.
I knew I'd seen it somewhere Dave

The other thing I found was the on board catering was fairly pants, the Portsmouth/St Malo crossing has a lot better choice and restaurant etc.
Not sure I'd do it again, rather ride through France I think...

We're trying both. France on the way down, ferry on the way back. We'll see which one wins for future trips.

That was our original plan but we couldn't quite make the crossings work with the time we wanted to be there and days off work. I've ridden through France before. The northern half is a bit of a slog but it gets nicer further down.

If you just use the route transferred via Tom Tom MyDrive whether it is generated from that or from MyRouteApp it goes over as a Track, no choice. Your Sat Nav is just following that track. If you come to a road blockage and have to divert the Sat Nav often ties itself up in knots trying to get back to the track which may not be possible for miles even to the point of sending you backwards. When you import an ITN file with waypoints it Navigates Waypoint to Waypoint. If you come across a blocked or closed road you can tell the Sat Nav your way is blocked or skip a waypoint entirely. These menu items automatically appear when the Sat Nav is using a way pointed ITN route but disappear when using a track. You are giving the Sat Nav more freedom to make choices between waypoints. Split each route/track up in sections, at least daily but you could do am and pm too.

Started putting the route together last night, starting with your recommendation. I'll chuck it at the MRA group when I'm done and see if anyone else has thoughts on it. There'll be two routes actually as we're planning to return via the ferry from Bilbao.

    Anyway, thanks again!

    Check out Calle del Laurel.
This street of Logroño is known as" the way of the elephants "("la senda de los elefantes"), from which you exit with your trunk and on all fours.
    Enjoy...................jealous
