Changed the fork oil on the trophy today, well kind of.. Didn't remove the forks 'cause I'm lazy, but tried the vacuum pump method. It took exactly 300ml from each leg, which was pleasing that it was identical. I'm guessing I've left quite a bit of the old stuff in the legs. Anyone know how much they tend to use in a 2002 trophy? (the one that should have 133mm air gap, less air gap would mean more fluid I assume). You probably don't tend to note how much doing it the inverted way, but how much out of a litre do you have left or do you need more than a litre?
Haven't managed a road test yet as the rain came down.

Took the trophy out for a test run after having done some work.
Before going I started wondering if I should have done the proper procedure for fork oil but thought I'd have to remove the fairing to gain access to the lower yoke bolts. So I checked access and in the process found the top of the lower yoke bolts was not even hand tight (it span in my fingers) and the other 3 were hardly much tighter. I've never done any work on them and can only assume they were 'touched' during the 12000 mile service many years ago. Tweaked them up without the torque wrench 'cause it was too tight a fit, reckoning that 20nm is tight but not too tight o_O.......
Anyway, brakes still work, so I haven't buggered them, forks seem better (placebo effect?), roads seem smoother, emergency braking can still get the front tyre chirping. However the change I wasn't expecting was the gearchange, the clutch must have been dragging before changing the fluid. I just thought the drive chain was getting a bit knackered after 18 years.. :grinning:

Had the first service on the SS this week so went out tonight for another fix. Engine freeing up nicely and now a few more revs to use post run in. Jeez this is a sweet bike!

Hunstanton, so not the most glamorous of locations :p, and it was bloody windy o_O A great 160 mile round trip, and one of those rides where you just feel at one with the bike, brilliant... apart from the wind, my ears are still ringing and I was wearing ear plugs.

Did your bike see the incident?? If it did that could be to blame and the reason it's acted up on the way home. :kissing:

Bit of of a bimble via H Cafe near Abingdon just to see whether they were open or not. Quite a few bikes there and the cafe was open with a traffic light system to let people in.
Bike night there tomorrow (Monday) so make pop along for a look.

WTF! Look at the colour of his trousers! I wouldn’t go near my bike wearing anything but blue or black, I’m the sort of guy who gets oil on his shirt by just thinking of a chain lube

Aw, don't sell yourself short, Duck. Lots of young and fast riders would get passed by one of these KTM's doing a wheelie!
