Bought a New used 2012 Bonneville T100 4 weeks ago. I finally got plates from DMV and was able to ride. I want to teach my boys how ride and they are eager to learn. I want to teach them that everything has a price. Before they ride they have to learn to maintain the bike first. So today they changed the oil and filter, cleaned and lubed the chain. They had to bolt on a small faring and they attempted to put on bar end mirrors, handle bars have a metal block in there. All in all they did well and got most of it done. They really did well with the riding. They did well and had a ball. They made me proud. The next generation of riders. I've got a few more mods for the Bonnie but that is down the road.

I like your approach to teaching your lad to ride. Though I have to say a T100 seems a heavy bike for a learner. I made all my early mistakes on beat-up Vespa. When I fell off it actually improved the appearance of the bike. Not sure I would trust my son on any of my bikes. A 2019 T120 and 2012 Trophy SE.

Can I add, once the lad has passed his test, (leave it for about six months) enroll him on a Bikesafe course and then an IAM / RoSPA course.

I guess they will have to look up a equivalent, they could try NYSMSP which offer basic training and further safety training.

In the states it is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Course to start with. They also offer advanced courses that are pretty good.
