Hi Guys/Gals I have a 2002 Speed triple and cannot find this info in the manual or on line, the coolant expansion tank under the riders seat has 2 small hoses connected to it, one comes from the radiator cap flange but the second hose is just hanging free, is this correct? I though it was a pressurized system and that any excess coolant will be returned to the radiator?
Yes , that's normal . the hose that hangs free is to vent excess coolant if some cluster f#*k put's far too much water/coolant in the system !
The coolant in the radiator is pressurised, as pressure builds excess passes through to the expansion tank. As it cools, the pressure drops and shrinks being refilled by the coolant in the expansion tank If the valve fails, pressure passes to the coolant tank and any excess coolant is vented through the drain tube to vacate at the bottom of the bike... Like my bike did here:
I cant remember the routing of the hoses. next time I take the seat off I will take a peak and photo if I remember
Thanks, I guess it must be the lower one that goes to the radiator or any liquid in there would just drain out onto the floor making it empty all the time.
