Good afternoon all, I`m thinking of giving my old Thruccy some more air to the K&N, so Iv`e been toying with the idea of drilling 3 holes across both of the side panels & in-filling with gold mesh, but as a former member of the DIY club...That is Don`t Involve Yourself I`m a little apprehensive to say the least.. Ive seen many threads on Triumphrat forum, but was just wondering if you guy`s & girl`s have had any experience of doing such a job & your experiences of cutting/ drilling into those oh so bloody expensive side panels.... I see that that good old ebayer PW864 does some with a lovely curved bulge (OOOH ER Mrs!!) at the front, & having used Pete many times before, I know that they`ll be great items, but, .... I was just thinking of going slightly cheaper & maybe less radical. That`s not saying I won`t go that way though... so,never say never...Whatever that saying means??? Cheers all. TBOY
I can't see how you will cock it up but if you do, a bit of fibre glass or go to Pete, at least you will have tried!
Masking tape line at the top, leave hole spaces (40mm might do) then masking tape below so to leave a sandwich style pattern. Does it look central when stood back from the bike? If not then adjust. Centralise three holes possibly four and cut with a hole saw the diameter of the distance of the masking tape gaps. De-burr when done
Hi TBoy, if you want to get more air into the motor, you might care to consider : 1. Replacing the K&N with a DNA air filter - better air flow; 2. Replace the std. filter cover with a Breath bellmouth from TTP; 3. Remove the baffle plate inside the airbox. If you do those things you'll increase air flow by about 50% ! No need for holes in the cover panels. http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/ttp-breathe-airbox-intake-cover.php
Hi thebiglad...nice of you to join my thread. I`m not sure what I want really, I`ve just lashed out on a K&N filter just before I see Triumph Twins website, Doah! so I guess I`m stuck with that for a while until my obsession of "Iv`e paid for it & know one`s gonna have it" mentality subsides. I run TOR`s exhausts, have done from new, but I only recently took off the SAI as Iv`e always hated the over-run from 3G (not the phone one) down to tick-over & it`s worked a treat. I really like PW864`s side panels, but how would it look with just one on the LHS I wonder? Iv`e considered too the breathe bell mouth option, but want it to run easier & free`er than I do with more grunt...If I need speed I just get the old Honda superdream out. Yeah righto!!!!! Read a thread on another forum that said about cool air being so much better than the hot air off the engine that they obviously pull into the air filter...that`s my little minds thought on it all really.
Yeah, cheers half ton. Was thinking of getting done what I need then sending my ecu to TTP to map. it`s always run ok my bike, but the left cylinder has always been a slightly darker colour than the right for some reason, but I guess the SAI hasnt help one little bit, pushing in all that air....Should of done that mod 2 Years & 1 day from new I now think.
Yep, If there`s a button to press that`s gonna bugger it all up.....I`ll find it.....I`m so unlucky, I have treats melt in my hand....( showing my age now!!!!) if I didn`t have bad luck...I wouldn`t have any luck I can tell ya. Pity that TTP don`t do a ride in/ride out service...I`d do that even if it cost a couple of quid. My best mate is an ex triumph technician & has done so much work on my Thruxton Ive lost count of what he`s done & what he`s made on his lathe....He`s such a clever sod & a good mate too...Known him since I was 5 & I`m 56 now!!!! Strange tho.....He ain`t keen on my Superdream for some reason.
Just had a pretech 6 pot caliper fitted to my bike, looks the nuts & if it stops as well as it looks, I`ll be doing stoppies every 100yds....Dunno if it`ll fit the scrambler
Hi TBoy, I understand what you're saying about technology but using Tune ECU and a cable/laptop not only allows you to load new maps, it also allows you to check throttle body balance, check faults codes and other useful stuff. And after the first time, it's dead easy to use.
I,m` ok with technology thebiglad, after all, my spelling on here is funtostic!!!! I`m more concerned with buggering it up! & it costing a lot to get it put right.
That's dead easy to avoid. When you first connect your laptop to your bike you can save a copy of the map that is currently on the bike, on your computer. With that you can always go back to how it was. Then you install the new map.
I need to look into it more I think, i enjoy computers, & my best mate was an ex triumph techy, so maybe. Still trying to get my money back on those indicators....But Paypals onto it now, so, maybe if they refund me, it`ll free up a bit of cash
Super Large!!!! It`s bike porn, I didnt know whether to put it on the bike or just stick it on the mantel piece & admire it!!! Lovely bit of kit. New EBC disc to go with it & Hel brake line too.....That`s why my old bit`s are on ebay right now....bit of plugging there for my bit for sale...ta rooster
