I got an email from Lings, look at all these bikes we have for sale... So I went and looked. Always liked the Scrambler, and the last in the list is...£7499. Out of my budget, but had a look anyway.

I came away from the photos feeling very pissed off. Why? Well something about this photo really grates...

Why would they even let that go? Is it just me?

No... Not buying. Just looking.

As of last month I have decided to hang on to my cash. People loosing thier jobs all over town. Businesses closing down. I have a steady income and few bills. Maybe it is time to figure our where we can help those around us. All the politicians do is spew salvia about re-opening the economy [they don't need a mask. They need a cork]. I think it is too late for saving us from a crashed economy in some.places. We are in for a bumpy ride. I will hoard my cash for now and keep the old bikes I have. ...J.D.

Odd thing is that Triumph recently confirmed to me that the bulb cap has to be removed when fitting the headlight grill in order to meet UK/EU regulations.

Unlike the seat, this will be simply a photo taken without being lined up rather than an off-centre grille, but it did then strike me that my 2019 SS doesn't have the emblem on the headlight lens.

I wondered if it was a spec change for the 2019 model year, but one of the other ones that Lings has is a 2019 and retains the emblem and the part number is the same for all Street Scramblers.

I suspect then that it's simply a little bit of value engineering that allows Triumph to keep the price of a replacement part down to a mere £472...

Is the emblem attached to the bulb then, not the headlight lens?

My grille was fitted by the dealer before delivery so I've not got a point of reference

Just checked the fitting instructions -

The bulb cap must be removed when fitting an accessory headlight grille. The motorcycle will not conform to Homologation regulations if the bulb cap is fitted with an accessory headlight grille and may render the motorcycle illegal for road use.

£472?!! For something which does nothing but block out some of the headlight beam? I think I'll pass...

No it's the plastic headlanp unit complete with bulb cap (but not the shell or bezel etc) that's £472, not just the bulb cap

The end of the bulb won't be blocking any light as the light that's projected forward comes from the side of the bulb, is reflected by the back of the headlamp shell and focused by the lens on the front

None of what I read above about Triumph fills me with confidence, or the desire to buy 'new'. :(

I think its just the angle the picture is taken at, notice everyting on the left of the picture (indicator, hand controls, cables, etc) is slightly larger.

I agree. I've been riding since 1967, and I have never had a headlamp broken by a flying stone. It's just a piece of styling to give the bike a tough image: real scramblers don't have them, as they don't have headlamps! Still, de gustibus non est disputandum, as folk say in these parts....

My feeling exactly. I have the oldest bikes in the group I ride with. They do the job.quite nicely in my humble opinion..If they expect me to give up my cash for a new one, they are going to have to do a lot better than a
bar-b-que grill over the headlight, and a video game instrument panel. ...J.D.
