Hi folks, I have a 2009 Bonneville SE , with 2 into 1 exhaust. I use it regularly during the summer but not so much at this time of year. Its kept in a garage away from the house , and I do start it up regularly. I have never had any problems with it, its always reliable. However I went round this afternoon , it was difficult to start and wouldn't tick over when the choke came off. I noticed that only one of the down pipes was hot, so I am guessing that it is only running on one cylinder. I will check for a spark tomorrow ( there is no light in the garage ! )but what would cause this if was running ok before ? Any thoughts would be helpful thanks........

Thanks for that, will give it a squirt tomorrow, but I don't think I am that lucky ! I was out on the bike about ten days ago and it was fine then. Its fuel injected so no carbs to block up, but I did wonder about the fuel. I always use the " high power " Shell petrol which i get from the same filling station.

Hi filbay. Had something similar myself with my 07 Speedie, only much worse, no sparks at all, turned out to be a spaffed ignitor unit. But in the hunt for the snag I checked the ignition through to isolate the problem. start small, check for damp, plugs, plug leads. Then move on to coils LH and HT sides, as long as you get the proper resistance across the coils you should be ok. If it's anything bigger you'll soon find out. Keep us posted

Thanks for the advice. I haven't had a chance to do anything today, but hope to get a chance tomorrow. Will start small as you mentioned and see what happens...................

Hope you get it sorted - electrics are a real pain.
Had a problem with my 04 Bonnie in that it wouldn't start at all - nothing at the button. Turned out to be one of the spade connectors on the solenoid was loose. May be worth a look.

I would suspect the ecu. they are known to give problems.

It took me a day or so to check everything out, pick up coil, throttle position sensor, side stand switch etc which left the ecu and checking that out was a reet bugger until an electronic tech neighbour gave me a couple of pointers. There's a write up I put somewhere in the tech help forum it might give you a clue or even help. Keep us in the loop

It's a Triumph...... If it were an older bike, I'd start with the plug, then check all the wiring. If still running on one cylinder, it could be a fuel line problem. In other words, if you think it is electrical, its fuel. If you think it's fuel, it's electric. There is no end to solving problems with a Triumph. No bike rides like a Triumph, and no bike presents us with problems like a triumph. Hope it is running now, but my advise is : When you discover and solve the problem, write it down in your manual. It may pop up years later and you will definitely forget how you solved the problem if you don't record it in GREAT DETAIL!
