    Morning All,

Once lockdown is less restrictive I'm going to test out a v4.. have been hankering over one for a while now!

Whats everyones take on the 17+ model and experiences of it? Also any reliability issues?

    Thanks in advance

I have a 2016RR, pre the LCD dash and the auto blipper, although mine does have quick shifter on the up shifts. A friend in the 20190912_123735.jpg village has a 2018 Factory. We both love our bikes. They are ultra rapid, handle well and sound great with the V4 motor. I'd recommend them to anyone although servicing costs can be high. The 12,000 mile service with valve clearance check/adjust is the biggy. If you look at a bike with 10k plus miles on the odo check this has been done so it follows full service history on these bikes is a definite plus. There are horror stories like most bikes , on the Tuono V4's its exhaust valves, but as I've mentioned if the servicing is done correctly and on time you shouldn't have any issues. The earlier 1000cc bikes suffered from Stator issues but this had been remedied by the time the 1100's came along.

I've not got one but a mate has a 16 plate 1100 very nice, sounds awesome and like riding a guided missile, It'll make the Speedy feel like a moped

    Thanks Johne,

Yes I've seen a few stories on other forums but you only ever hear the bad ones. How do you think reliability is compared to a speed triple? Have bèn looking at wheels in Peterborough, they have a 19 with 1k miles

I can't comment on the reliability of a Speed Triple cos I've never owned one, but I have ridden one and although it might be blasphemy to say this on a Triumph forum I think the Tuono is a better all round bike than the Triumph. The person who is making the decision of course is you, not me, but if I were in your shoes I'd try and blag a ride on both before pulling the trigger. The Speed Triple I rode was a lovely bike ,but I just felt the Tuono was better in all departments except perhaps fuel consumption and you don't really buy that kind of bike if mpg is high on your list of desirable qualities..

For some reason Aprilia only did the Blue on the RR versions and not the Factory and just for two seasons 2015/16. Again its personal choice, but I find the colour schemes on the Factory versions not to my taste and I spent quite a while before I tracked mine down with just 600 miles on the odo when I bought it. I've done a few mods including fitting the Ohlins rear shock off a Factory model, so apart from the steering damper and front forks, mine is identical to a 2016 Factory. I'd like the auto blipper and the M50 Brembo brakes that come on the 2017 and later bikes but to be honest my 2016 is more than enough bike for me and I plan on keeping it for a long time. I'm told the semi auto Ohlins on the 2019/20 Factory models is brilliant, but you will pay a premium for bikes thus equipped.

I found that with the speed, after 100 miles the light comes on

You're asking about a '17 plate which I've not owned but have had a 2016 Touno Factory and a 2018 Tuono Factory.
Amazing bikes, the power and sound of that V4 is fantastic you'll not want for any more speed. I bought my 16 new and when I wanted to trade it in, none of the other supernakeds gave me the same excitement so chopped it in against a 2018.
Not massive differences really, 2018 had electronic dash, up and down quickshifter(only up quicksilver on 16) better brakes and electronics oh yeah and the piece of mind of a new warranty.
On that I was slightly nervous when getting my first after hearing horror stories of poor reliability and then massive lead times for parts but neither of mine missed a beat, only time in the shop were for routine servicing. Put circa 6000 miles on them both, would have been more but only a second bike for sunny days and fun.
A word of advice though, if having an aftermarket can make sure it's got the ECU mapping to match. It not it can upset the valves and an expensive repair bill.
Someone has already mention the big service is a big cost, yes that's right even the dealer advised me about that.
Yeah ok, lack of fuel gauge was annoying, most other manufacturers manage to get one on, but it's not really a major. Reset trip meter every time I filled up and know the light will be coming on bit after 100ish miles. Oh yeah, they can a bit thirsty but no one buys a Tuono cos they want an economical motorcycle, that's not what it's about!
Fantastic bikes and glad I've had the experiences, no regrets at all

Exactly what I was looking for!

I want the 17 onwards just cus of the tft and cruise control really.

I only do 3-4k a year at best so servicing isn't a worry, just don't want to buy a bike that needs lots of attention all the time.

Not bothered by the fuel gauge as I have an old blade without one and just reset the trip.

Think once I can get on one I'll decide.

Rode the s1000r and its a nice bike, just doesn't give you the same sensation as triples or twins and guessing v4s

The 'other' bike people usually refer to when discussing the Tuono and the BMW S1000R is the KTM Super Duke R. I haven't ridden one because frankly I don't like the look of them and KTM seem to have an obsession with that lurid Orange paint, but they might be worth a look too.

I thought about the Ape V4 after selling my ‘13 BMW K13S with 175hp. Here in my area, Aprilia dealers are almost non existent and parts from Italy are slow. My ‘16 TTR with only 100 or so hp keeps me happy and with only 9k so far so not looking for anything else. Of course, I’ve had 40+ bikes and once the itch starts who knows.

Agree with you here, v4 sounds amazing.

Johne, I have been locking at the superduke, will have to try that too. They do a nice one in black

    Afternoon All,

finally got on a test ride today on the 2020 tuono, brilliant bike!

very complicated to use though. Anyone think its worth the extra for the electric suspension? I jumped from my 99 blade to this, and yes it did feel smoother, but not as smooth as a bmw 1200 r (AKA DFS!) with electric suspension.

got my eye on a couple 2017 and 2018 models. 20200624_150949.jpg

I rode a 2019 Factory a while back. I don't think theres much difference between the 2019 and 2020 Factory spec Tuonos. It was Pre lockdown in fact, so the weather wasn't the best back then. I didn't even scratch the surface with all the electrical gizmos it had to hand. I thought the electronic Ohlins was good, perhaps very good on a test ride in better weather with a fully dry road surface, but I came away thinking. "Would it be worth the investment of chopping in my 2016RR and putting the best part of £9k to it to ride away on one?"

The answer to that question in my case was a big fat No.

    Dont think apart from paint.

No I didnt think it was all that either, maybe the likes of rossi can tell the difference but to me it just felt like a well tuned setup.

There is a 6week wait at my local dealer so think I'll keep shopping around.
