......in the middle of prepping rims for painting :(

Any suggestions for alternative replacements, or a source of refurbed Dremels perhaps, before I start shopping?

Have a look on Machine Mart, they do Dremel and alternatives. Probably Screwfix and Toolstation too!

Have been looking at various sites, it’s as much about which to buy - Dremel being the default I guess!

I bought a Dremel a few years ago as there didn't appear to be any alternative. 'German quality' said the salesman. He was somewhat taken aback when I returned the burnt out tool the next day.
Now there are lots of much cheaper alternatives on ebay and amazon. I also found the Dremel tools to be obscenely expensive, and they do wear out quickly.

The rotar brushes on the motor can and do wear out. A few bucks to replace them. Easy to inspect

I've had it apart, brushes are fine but speed control is fried, not sure if anything else is damaged.

My Dremel bit the dust pretty quick. Didn’t bother getting another waste of money

I was going to buy a Dremel just last week, due to availability of the one I wanted ended up having a look at the alternatives.
As a post above I got one of these
    https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/crt40-40pce-rotary-tool-kit/
Done a couple of jobs, it's a good piece of kit and glad i didnt go to the expense of a Dremel branded item

    Mine did exactly the same.

Overly expensive for what they are... Currently using a rechargeable one from Lidl, for £19. Already lasted longer than the dremel!

Soooooo - I came across a refurbed Draper for £28. Will let you know if I end up proving the old adage - yet again......
