    Hi all,

I wanted to introduce myself as I look after the partnership between Triumph and what3words.

Triumph is the first motorbike manufacturer to adopt what3words. what3words provides a precise and incredibly simple way to talk about location. We have divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each one a unique 3 word address. It means anywhere can be found with 3 simple words.

For bikers, this means that riding to a remote meeting point, building back entrance, specific parking spot etc. is made easy. By typing a 3 word address into the updated My Triumph app, the turn by turn navigation on the TFT display will get you to the exact spot. No more pulling over to check the directions or thinking you’ve arrived only to realise the address isn’t quite right.

The updated MyTriumph app is now live with what3words which you may have already seen and I hope some of you have already played around with sending three word addresses to your TFT for easy navigation (even with the current situation hindering the ability to ride).

We are planning some exciting partnership activity for when the world opens up again but, in the meantime, I will happily answer any questions you have about what3words and the partnership and would welcome any feedback.

    Thanks,
    Charlie
(p.s. as a bike novice, go easy)

Hi Charlie, and welcome in :cool:
Quick question.........why would you not use what3words for your location rather than the postcode you've put on your profile :joy::joy:

So crims don't have a 3m x 3m square where they know there's a nice bike to steal?

Personally I wouldn't even be happy with giving my postcode!

    I appreciate that mate :rolleyes::rolleyes:
Firstly I believe that is their office premises and secondly the comment was because he had in fact used his postcode and not the What3words app in his profile and as the original post was to introduce himself and promote their app I found it amusing, as I believe did Charlie ;);)

@tim8061 @Helmut Visor Yes sorry I am hiding behind our office three word address. However, to bring a bit of personalisation, I can say that my favourite pub is found at ///below.trout.flash

It's a great app, mates have used it to get ambulances out to the sticks on at least two occasions.

Welcome to the family. Great but you lost me a long time ago. I take it this is a satnav of some sort. Will it fit any bike and tell me more as I am useless at directions. Funny can't find anywhere but always find my way back home. Please do tell us more and prices would help aswel. And anyone trying to help the biking world is good to me.
    Regards
    Joe

What3words is a phone app that uses three words to identify a position, so you can use it to call an ambulance to a remote location for example or just use it to rendezvous with mates.

I’ve had the app on my phone for a while now and yes it’s a great system, we are beginning to introduce it into our bloodbike group so new volunteers can be directed to a specific parking spot for deliveries which is fantastic. unfortunately, me included, a lot of us use satnavs still so I create POIs on my tomtom of the same.
I read that W3W were doing something with tomtom @Charlie what3words is this true? As it would make my life a lot easier!

Hi @joe mc donald and thanks for the welcome. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough about what3words with my first post. what3words is an addressing system.

The easiest way to think about it is like GPS coordinates but made human friendly.

We split the world into a grid of 3mx3m squares (57 trillion squares). By only using words from the dictionary we have assigned every single one of those squares a completely unique three word address. For example, a square on the finish line at Silverstone has the three word address ///shuttling.string.perky.

what3words are much more accurate than traditional addresses (where typing in a postcode or street address doesn't always get you to the right place). Similarly, many places don't have addresses that you can type into a satnav.

As what3words is now built into the MyTriumph app, you can now type a three word address into your destination bar so your navigation will get you to exactly the right place. Also, the 'what3words' button in the app allows you to discover the three word address of your current location. This useful to share with friends or emergency services in case of an accident (we are used by over 80% of UK emergency services in this way).

Sorry for the essay but hope that helps. You can find three word addresses using our map site (www.what3words.com) as well as loads more info if interested.

    Thanks,
    Charlie
