Seasons greetings! Hope everyone is enjoying the mild December and making the most of the dry days! Looking for a few tips on buying a new bike? Not a triumph but gsxr 750. Thanks in advance.
Best bit of advice is always be prepared to walk away! If you decide that the one you're going to look at is the bike you want you are in no position to haggle.
One problem with gsxr 750 is that a lot have been track day hacks. Check for tie wires on components that never had ties. Spindle nut, oil filter etc. Check for original fairings and for glass patch repairs on the inside. Do not write off gsxr 1000 - they are a muck more powerful machine and due to large engine - are ofter more affordable. Just remember - try contact previous owners to varify it's past life. All the best
Thanks for the replies, I should have clarified, I want to buy a new one from the dealership, and wanted a few tips on best ways to haggle on the price.
Contact all major Suzuki agents around UK get best price and use as benchmark. If no price movement - request extras to be thrown in as sweetener - clothing, lids etc
Make sure you've got your money side of things fully sussed, so you can say "Give me the right deal and I'll sign today"
Go into the dealer's at the month end when targets need to be met. They may be desperate to sell one more bike that month. I inadvertently did just that, originally to buy a pre-reg'd Ford Fiesta (£7,000 as opposed to a new one at £10,000), but ended up being asked if we would have a brand new one - same model, same spec but a solid colour, red as opposed to metallic silver. No brainer really when the price they wanted was still £7,000 otr.
hers some help that may be useful. /rideapart.com/articles/how-to-buy-a-new-motorcycle http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Tips-to-B...cycle-from-a-dealer-/10000000007320526/g.html http://www.youmotorcycle.com/buy-a-...-bargaining-strategies-at-the-dealership.html
Def check out the Gixxer 1000 before committing as Stollydriver suggests. The Gixxer is a great bike and not as extreme as other similar bikes but the 750 is a bit lonely in that class so you may get a deal on a showroom bike thats hard to shift. You may find yourself wishing you bought a 1000 but if its not a performance based decision then check out the Gixxer 600-its lighter and only down 20bhp on the 750. Or....the Triumph Daytona 20kg lighter still...good luck!
Thanks. Rode the dayatona a few months AFO, the ride position is too extreme. Rode the gsxr 600, have to rev the nuts off it. Gsxr 1000 is far too much power for what I'll be using it for (pussy road riding!) Rode the 750 fell in love with it. Will take your tips on board. Did go into my local dealer and they are willing to through in a few extras, this is without me putting a deposit down so I'm sure when I come to actually buy it they will be more flexible.
Ha-pussy road riding! know what you mean but too much power...??!! Sounds like your dealers are up for a haggle so enjoy the Gixxer its a great bike!
do a bit of web search and go to a dealer that "doesn't" have a second hand one for sale but tell him you're only in the market for a a quality low miler used... he'll immediately offer to sell you a new one at a knock down price
