We all have to accept that despite its stress relieving benefits, riding a motorbike for recreation is banned under the current rules even though you would be able to keep well away from everyone, and to a degree, limit any bugs freely escaping from a full face helmet. Accidents are clearly a potential risk to NHS resources and the rider, so quite rightly motorbikes are off the road for recreational use for the duration. I think though, pedal cyclists being allowed to roam free is a risk, as particularly around my village the footpaths are very narrow and the many cyclists enjoying the air pass slowly by a lot closer than the 2 meter rule and often within 1 meter. Some are fit and zoom by, but some are huffing and puffing with the effort, and must be putting those on the pavement at some risk as it’s not possible to step back away from them. Only one yesterday had the foresight to check there was no traffic behind him and steer his bike to be well away from those on the footpath...all others seem to believe they are in a safe protective airproof corridor only half a meter away from the edge of the pavement. Some are even still out riding in groups and as they are the same adult age can’t possibly be from the same household. My point is...if they can cycle... then they can walk, and be restricted to the same safety rules as the rest of us. Everyone I’ve come across out walking for their once a day exercise has observed the 2 meter rule and despite narrow footpaths can wait for there to be no traffic before stepping into the roadway to pass each other safely by... just my personal point of view ... keep safe all
I think it does, as soon as your feet go in a repetitive circular motion it appears to do something to your brain and turns you into an entitled cnut who thinks you can do what you like. Not an hour ago whilst out walking the dogs, had some dick shout "excuse me mate" then cycled past me closer than 3 feet away. He couldnt get further away because i was on a sodding footpath with railings. The road to our left having cycle lanes both sides........
It don't matter if they are on a bike or on foot they will likely be exactly the same. Generally just twats the lot of them.....
I’d rather sweaty joggers huffing and puffing as they lumber past u less the 2 feet away were banned.
I live in a coastal town in the New Forest. 5 mins from home on my push bike I'm on deserted cycleways through the woods. If I walk from home I'm on busy coastal or town walks with people being just as inconsiderate as the twats on bikes mentioned earlier. And there are indeed many twats on bikes. When I have to go to the shops for ourselves and our elderly parents the shoppers are worse than the asshole cyclists and pedestrians. From this I reckon it's people in general who are the problem, not the thing that they are doing. Lots of people are being tossers and should be made to stay home.
I thought that it was still technically illegal for adults to ride a bicycle on the pavement. Edit - yep, just found this https://www.slatergordon.co.uk/medi...illegal-to-ride-your-bicycle-on-the-pavement/
It is and its the thing that pisses me off most but i seem to be the only person who cares. FFS 2 weeks ago i even saw a policeman in full uniform cycling on a footpath 15-20 feet away from a road running in the same direction.
You don’t know me, or anyone I cycle with. FFS stop the lazy ass sweeping generalisations. There are plenty of arseholes out there. Some ride bikes. Some ride motorcycles. Some drive cars. Some walk. They live amongst us.
That’s twice I’ve noticed GS mentioned Alan, at the third time it’ll be a purchase then you’ll be in the deutche department of the The Triumph forum.de
I was looking at my Guzzi's registration document this week. It says 'Taxation Class: Bicycle'. My Triumph's document is just the same. Just saying......
