    Hello All
Thanks for the warm (and very funny) welcome.
Based upon this I thought i'd get to the point of joining here.

In short, I'm looking to buy a Bobber Black. I've a dealership (Jack Lilley - Romford) that is local.
I've got a quote for insurance

Having never purchased from a dealer, what I'm looking for is tips on what I can expect to push for in a deal.
I'm more biased towards accesories/service that saving some cash - I've budgeted for the list price but wanted to throw it out there to see what the best approach could be.

    Hope this makes sense

    TIA

Welcome to the family. See you got all the good answers already. Like that here in the asylum. Well you are buying at the right time as dealers are desperate to make money. Bikers are staying away and worried about the future. So it's a buyers marker. The bike choice is a good one. Just now tell them what you want and how much you are willing to pay and I am positive you will walk away smiling. Always good to play them against each other so phone Bulldog and Ashford Lilleys to gather some ammo.
    Regards
    Joe.

Just got two points to offer BZFMlll:

    1. lARGE CAPACITY BIKES sales are down significantly, worldwide;

    2. With this COVID19 thing, nobody is buying anything they don't really need right now.

This means that, despite what your dealer might tell you, they are GAGGIN' for your money, especially if you want something they have in stock.

Do a bit of phoning around to find out who has got what, in stock. Don't try and negotiate over the phone; if you are allowed to go and visit the dealers and negotiate face to face.

Always, always, be prepared to walk away. They need you more than you need them.

I'll never forget when I was on a 4x4 trip in Morocco with DD a few years ago and we were negotiating with a local to buy some coloured rocks. We walked away, he followed with a better offer, we got back into the car - better offer, started the engine - better offer, started to drive away - the best offer and a sale !!!

Take care all, we're on total lock-down here. Have to stay indoors, if I need to walk the dogs I have to have a signed document with me.

    Happy days eh ?

    Dave

Jack Lilley is shut I'm afraid as are all bike showrooms. Just the servicing departments open for now

Thanks again chaps - Great advice. I'll be phoning round a few when things are a little more standard to see how the land lies
I'll probably go for the clothing/accesories approach as I think I should have better purchase (pun intended) there

One general query; if a dealer doesn't have stock, but the deal is pretty good, is there a generic lead time around delivery?
(due to the current conditions I respect the fact that it may take longer for manufactures to get up to speed)
What I don't want to happen is to get an unrealistic delivery time just to make the sal;e and I'm waiting around twice that long

"now my next question is around helmets...."

    Hi Littleade
    Fair point re demo ride:
I had a demo ride when I was in Norfolk around 6-odd months ago and thought that if I still want it in 6 months then that'll be the bike for me

    I still want it :-D

I'm far from the branded only approach re clothing. I did like the look of the Raven 2 jacket but had a good look in the Bike Shed and Urban Rider to get a good feel for what I'd be comforatble with

I'm looking at the best bang for the buck, so as mentioned before, I'll trawl a few dealers to see how the land lies

The dealer from whom I purchased my Scrambler 1200 sent me their paperwork which showed their buy price. I was surprised to see how much they make, more than I thought. You have al the advice, for me I went with a stock bike, rang round and got lucky. As for clothing, buy cheap buy twice, the Bobber is cool so a nice Segura or Goldtop leather jacket. For crappy weather I have a Triumph Malvern Goretex (on sale right now) and its great, not normally a fan of manufacturers branded clothing but in this instance a third of the price of Rev-It Goretex. If you've not been a trip to Motolegends (Guildford) is worth it, a tad snooty maybe but top quality stuff, great service and not overpriced, kind of the John Lewis of biking stuff.

    Enjoy

Buy a helmet that fits correctly, that’s the most important thing.

Not one that you think makes you look cool because it suits the style of bike.
