    During this current lockdown if I use my bike to take me to work that appears to be ok, but can I take my bike out of the garage, drive it around for an hour then put it back in the garage. As I won't be in contact with anyone else do you think this will be acceptable under Boris's new 'lockdown' ?

    Can’t see the problem in using it to get to work instead of public transport or to get essentials from the shop.

    Not at this time, it can only be used to take you to work and back or go shopping for essentials.

    So you can go out on a bicycle or walk the dog but not go out on a motorcycle.
    This is my exercise to keep body and soul together.

    Hi Glen C;
    There’s a long thread I started on Sunday on this subject, it’s in ‘The Lounge’ under heading ‘Social Riding’.
    Plenty answers there.
    Ken.

    Sorry Ken I didn't see your thread in the Lounge Forum.

    Would Moderators please lock this thread, no point in having two on the same subject.

    Ride to essential work and back only I’d say. Ride to get food. Other than that just polish it!!

    Seems to me if everybody rode to work on a motorcycle at this time everybody would be much safer (corona virus wise). There are still people packed like sardines on the London tube today.

    My opening question was to initiate a discussion by fellow motorcyclists on the current lockdown, I wasn't expecting a full blown rant - please calm down mate.

    For the record I have no intention of taking my bike out until this lockdown is over

    There is a lot of strong feelings about this subject mate. It is a shame that you asked a question that has stirred that feeling up. Leave your bike in the garage unless for work or food and then move on and forget about the ranting responses.

    Would taking the bike out for a spin not come under your daily exercise which we all are allowed to do. I mean, your moving your body around, using the mind to remember what gear you're in, concentrating on watching for danger signs, assessing your surroundings etc. I'd give it a go but remember this, you will have to fill up after a few days so make sure you use gloves at the petrol stations. I keep a bunch under my seat in case they have run out of their own ones (which I wouldn't trust anyway!).

    Although you would be doing nothing to aid the spread of the virus we've been told no unnecessary journeys so that's it.
    I'm a self-employed carpenter/builder and I'm not working on site so my work is non-essential. Good job I stocked up on some materials and can get stuck in at home! Driveway repairs today.

    I guess the way to look at this is, if you had an off and had to be hospitalised that would be an unnecessary strain on NHS police/ambulance resources?
