I've already posted my first post in the Newbie section but I thought I'd say hi to the other Speedy riders as I'll be mainly posting on here. A few pics of the bike attached. I'm the second owner and it came with several Triumph accesories. Most of which I would have got myself anyway. I've read quite a few of the posts on here already and especially found Mr Triple's Ownership Thread very interesing. Took some reading though! I've already drilled out the Euro 4 discs using the well documented technique. Loving the deeper growl but suprised it isn't any louder. Anyone else around my area?
Welcome to the forum Linx That's one spotless looking bike (even the stickers are still on the chain guard!) - very nice indeed! Glad you found my (long) thread interesting (someone had to). I just wanted to share some 'everyday ownership' stuff that might come in handy. I posted today after a bit of a pause...I can't believe it's approaching two years since picking up my bike. Top tips? Make sure your clutch lever isn't over-tightened and is properly greased...and read the Quick Shifter threads so that you have an awareness of possible issues. I've had no trouble, but others certainly have. Enjoy your bike! PS - Did you remove that belly pan sticker in the last photo...or did you stick it on in the first two. It's better without you see
Hi Mr Triple. Thanks for the welcome and the tip on the clutch lever. The later pics are the ones with the stickers on . I'm not sold on them either. I think bigger would look better. It also has a white rear hugger now, which I do like! You can just see it in the top photo.
Hi there and welcome! There's soooo much information on here that I sometimes just can't believe how helpful these people are. Any questions are answered (including relationship, financial and drinking problems.... ) and i've gotten lots of ideas for my bike from the info on here. Plod about on the site and enjoy!!
I'm no oracle @Trippy Tripple - it's just bolts filling in holes I wondered about your pillion situation too Linx - the RS will originally have had both a rear seat and a seat cowl (although I note you have a passenger grab rail). If you can dump your passenger (which is better for avoiding Covid-19), it's a lovely clean look with the cowl and without the pegs - and you'll get a better view of your white hugger Here's mine 'sans-pegs' when it was new, before I removed the Arrow exhaust.
Hi Trippy. Thanks for the reply. Your bike looks great too . The recall on the QS is still open on it but I will get it done soon. I've gone for the R&G rad guard and a Chinese unknown oil cooler guard. I was suprised to see they were completely open to the road dirt! I do take my kids on the back occasionlly. So I'm going to keep the rear pegs and the grab rail on. For now anyway. I usually do 2 or 3 trackdays a year and it has crossed my mind that the footrest hangers would actually protect the silences should the unmentionable happen .
Actually Mr Triple, after a closer look, your bike looks really good. Like new! Mine had obviously been used on salty roads at some point and not washed afterwards. A few fasterners corroded, the oil pipes off the oil cooler were corroded, the ABS rings were corroded and the exhaust system is a bit marked in places. I've cleaned it up now and brushed on some ACF50 on the vulnerable parts . It was a good price though and bodywork all good.
Hi Linx, welcome to the forum I have recently taken ownership of a Speedy RS too, great bike really enjoying it had a 2015 GSXR 750 before this - cracking bike but the riding position was starting to destroy my wrists and lower back. I'm just waiting on a seat cowl for my one to finish off the overall look that I want, I also removed those annoying fork reflectors (see pic) which improves the look of the front end in my opinion, I used fishing line then wiped off the remaining adhesive with WD-40 and a fair amount of elbow grease. As far as the quickshifter goes I find the up changing seamless but prefer to downshift manually as I find this smoother, really impressed by the torque of the engine - early days yet but it's looking like the best bike I have ever owned✅
Welcome Linx. This is a great forum with a wealth of information. I feel fortunate to be a part of it. Very nice bike indeed, congrats. Now, if you want the exhaust to sound much better, you need to remove the baffles. I’ve had two bikes and have tried with just baffles out, just discs out and of course with both removed. With just the discs removed it isn’t really any different. With both removed it’s by far the best. It’s much louder and much deeper, and in my opinion just about perfect. Now cut those baffles out and enjoy that sexy beast .
Hi Steve, Thanks for that. I've read that low end torque is reduced if you remove the baffles. Have you felt this at all?
Hi Linx, nope. Both my brother and I noticed that it was a little stronger after removing the baffles. The top end felt less restricted as well. Have a look at the graphs below. From another forum but shows a stock dyno with a Tuono and a dyno with the discs and baffles removed. It’s the same owner and same dyno.
Thanks. So from what you say I presume the top graph is with the baffles removed and the bottom one is stock but against the Tuono. Is that right? The Triumph graphs look identical.
OK. So no difference to power with or without baffles. I test rode a Tuono the same day I test rode the Speed Triple. I felt like I was strapped to a rocket without much strapping! Much preferred the Triumph. Felt much more planted.
Like I said a couple comments back, it feels stronger with both removed. Even my brother noticed it felt like it had more pull.
