Has anybody got any 'educated' guesses as to what depreciation is likely to be like on the new Rocket 3?
Say, for example, what will an R3R be worth in 3 years time?

If the drop is less than what my current 2017 Triumph has lost in 3 years, then it gives me more ammo to convince the missus that an R3 is a 'sound investment' :p

I can live with the fact that it's more money 'tied-up' ...it's all about depreciation (and, therefore, main cost of ownership) to me.

The general idea with ‘investments’ is that they appreciate not depreciate! Residual value is a function of demand in the second hand market partially driven by demand for the brand new. Time was when you could sell your nearly new Morgan for more than list to cut out the wait!

The danger when talking about ‘investment’ is that you sound like Gordon Brown who described all and any expenditure as ‘investment’. Yeah, thanks for the debt Gordon......

Now, you know the manager. Psychology is your friend so don’t destroy your credibility with the opening sentence. Have you even ridden the thing? You might not get on - literally and metaphorically. Maybe drip feed the idea with all its uniqueness, safety features and ‘solid residuals’ while seeing how Spring sales go? A test ride (& tediously repeating the joyous experience) can only enhance the credibility of your desires. Just don’t scare her that you are entering your second childhood ahead of schedule - especially if you are!

I didn't mean 'investment' in it's literal term.
I know it's going to loose several £1000's in three years ...just wanted an idea as to how many £1000's

And I was being humorous knowing how hard those conversations can be! Chances are you would lose 40% in the first 3 yrs and then it slows down.

Bluntly, I don’t buy new but favour the low mileage 1 yr old. The ONLY thing that tipped it on a car was the ludicrous scrappage scheme that valued by £800 shed at £2,600......if only for bikes.

Bikes arent about money my man!! We all know that :laughing:

However, like most Rocket owners, buyers will hang on to these for years (what the hell bike are they going to trade it in for??) which will keep resale values up IMHO

Just tell here you have a fantastic trade in offer that is too good to refuse. Get Triumph guy to give you a receipt for £15k for the new bike and voila! Rocket in the pocket!!

Never got round to getting any figures about PCP:confused:
But you’re right in that it would give you a pretty good idea of what Triumph will think it’s worth in three years time :)
What Triumph think it’s worth and what it could actually be worth might be quite different though
    Triumph is a business
