I bought my Street Twin new last week. Never had a Triumph before...VERY HAPPY! Each time I've fueled up I've noticed what appears to be a problem. Coming from my old bike, I've gotten used to looking in the tank to determine when it's full. Each time, I stopped when the gas level was at the top of the tank (taking less than 1 gallon but I only had 2-3 bars on the gauge). After riding for a few minutes, I would get another bar or 2 from the calibration. Basically, the gauge is telling me it's half full, when I can clearly see the fuel at the top of the tank. Thoughts??
Additional info...just this morning my "miles to E" said 69, but after I commuted to work (13 miles) I checked it again and it said 75 but the bars never changed.
When i picked up my 2019 they warned me that it would take several fill ups for the 'computer' to learn how full the tank was and the range left. Mine still isn't perfect but is much better than when i first got it. To be fair i have only manged 600 miles on it so far.
My Street Twin takes about 5 minutes or so of riding to fully calibrate. The owners manual even mentions that. So if it eventually registers full than it is working OK. From the bike manual:
Many new Triump's do this, it's normal, annoying but normal, I tend to re-fill my ST when it hits two bars, approx £12 of super dooper (wasted money really) unleaded, my MPG (proper British gallon none of that former colony gallon stuff) is in the mid-late 60's early 70's allegedly.
I've managed to get it to 7 bars by moving the bike and letting the gas shift around but have not yet successfully filled it to 8 bars.
I did read that in the manual, but even aallowing the time for recalibration doesn't make a difference. Have not had a successful 8 bar fill up yet
One thought, does it make a difference filling up on the side stand or holding upright? My first few fills were upright, before realising the off centre cap sits at the top when on the side stand.
Had mine two'n'half years, always fill it to the brim and never had the gauge showing 100% full. Now I never expect it to.
Mine has also never registered 8 bar full. But it really does not bother me. I know it is full. I just watch miles traveled and know I can easily get 150 miles per fill up with some to spare.
Yup. Thats just the way it is. A few times in the last 3 years, ive tryed to get full bars. Filled up on left side first, then tilted to the right and added more. Thats the few times it registered max bars.
I do both. I'll stand it up while filling then look inside while it rests on side stand and shift it back and forth and keep adding gas then shifting til gas level stays at top of tank. I've even turned the bike on (Not started though) to let fuel pump through and turn back off and keep filling. It's crazy!
