I took my Thruxton in for service this morning and had a Street Triple on loan and jesus what a bike that is!!!!! I’m not sure I could own one as I’m fairly certain I’d end up in prison or hospital but it was a whole lot of fun!!! Here she is...
I made that mistake when I took my brand new Street Twin in for it's 500 mile oil and filter change. Ended up chopping the Twin in for the Triple there and then
Whens enough, enough? As @Bad Billy said "765 is all the bike you need" @Hippo-Drones nobody for one minute is suggesting the 1050 isnt more powerful etc but especially on the road its not going to get away from the 765 if the riders any good. Ive chased Fireblades etc with ease as the 765 is just such a sweet package. Against my old Honda CB1000R the Triumph is "Street"s ahead
Did you fit on it ? You look to be a decent size / height fella, same as me. I found the street just a bit to small, like riding a BMX. Great speed and a handling, even back when they first came out, but it just felt like a toy. Found the 1050 much more accommodating.
I'm 6' 2" and I find the Street Triple a little cramped. It'd be the Speed Triple for me all day long. Love them and would trade the Thruxton for one without too much hesitation. I think you only need the S version for the road.
I am 6’3’ & 16 stone, so a relative light weight compared to you MrO , sorry couldn’t resist! , seriously though never felt cramped or uncomfortable to me
Don't get me wrong, I love smaller displacement bikes, I previously owned a Ducati 1098 Streetfighter S but got shot as it was no fun, ended up with a KTM Duke 390 which was a proper giggle, more fun a lot of the time than my 765... but just because you can't ride on the road any faster, it doesn't mean the Speed is irrelevant! I am looking to get rid of my 765 at some point, and depending on who will take my money first, it'll either go on the Aprilia RS660 or the Triumph Speed Triple 1160
When you have had it a while I would be interested to hear how it compares? Everyone has their own preference, personally I think the gearbox is a delight on the street, not so on the Speed.
The box on the Street 675 I had a few years back was a lot better than my Speed RS. That said, the Speed RS gearbox is a lot improved over the previous 1050 boxes in the Speeds and Tiger Sports I've had. One of the reason I've switched to the Street is because I'm doing trackdays again and the Speed, while it did go fairly well, just doesn't seem to suit the track, my CBR600RR felt a lot more at home on the track (didn't like it on the road though....) with the lighter weight and quicker steering. I test rode the Street 765 and the Speed a couple of years ago and thought then that the Speed is a better road bike with the torque and weight etc, but the Street would make a great trackbike. So I've had the Speed RS for a couple for years now and having seen that the latest Street RS has gearbox updates from what they've learnt in Moto2 and also has a bit of a boost in the midrange, I decided it's time to try out the Street instead and see how it works on the track and road. Just got to work out how to disconnect the ABS and put a decent can on it
I immediately miss the torque of my speed when I’m on my street, that said they are very different machines imo. In the right (capable) hands the little street is a very capable machine, certainly no slouch and very confidence inspiring. It’s precise, accurate and quick! Actually a bit dangerous I reckon...I often find myself getting carried away all to quickly. If common sense did not prevail I would have ran out of talent a long time ago!
Hey, Eldon...I’d be more impressed if you’d said “I’ve lead Fireblades etc with ease” rather than chasing them. . Only joking mate. Ken.
Its a dash option to turn it off IIRC. Flick through the options and off you go. The one issue is it defaults to safety so you would have to reselect it to off each time you turned the ignition on.
Me on the 765 and my mate on a 675 chased a Hyabusa and a Blackbird up in the dales through some fast sweepers. I think they were thinking they were going quick until two white bikes i.e. we, popped up in their mirrors. The way their heads bobbed about from mirror to mirror told me we had them ticking
Not on the 2020 model. thanks to the EU, it can't be disabled now, just changed to race setting which is still intrusive on the track. Hence I have to find out how to disable it.....
