I've got my shiny new TomTom Rider 550 here, connected it to my phone and intercom, and like an excited child with a new toy, I'm now hovering over the 'purchase' button for MyRoute-App. I've skimmed through this thread and watched the helpful video posted by @XCaTel and it seems like the Gold option would be the sensible one. I'm planning a trip to Spain this year and thinking that MRA would be ideal, as I wanted to research and choose my own route. Generally, does the app get the big thumbs-up from people who've been using it for a while, making it worth the subscription? I think I need to slot a MicroSD in to the TomTom to store the routes - is that right? Does anyone have any recomendations for a mount to use on my Street Triple? The one that came with the TomTom is going in the Duc.
You only need a MicroSD if you want to transfer .itn files (route with waypoints) from your PC which you cannot do wirelessly. See my video on Route Vs Track using MyRouteApp and Tom Tom 550. A little 8GB card is fine. Otherwise you can transfer "Tracks" direct from MyRouteApp to your Tom Tom mydrive account and it puts it somewhere on the internal memory on the Tom Tom 550 wirelessly which is pretty cool. You have to tell your Tom Tom MyDrive account to transfer your routes automatically but only once and then it will do it from then on. Try making a route on Tom Tom MyDrive and sending to your Tom Tom 550 to get the functionality working first. That will confirm that side of it works before doing it from MyRouteApp.
Yes, it appears as a drive normally when you plug it into the PC as does the SD card when it is sitting in the Tom Tom. Then the Tom Tom asks you to select the file to import it.
Excellent advice - thanks. Other than knowing when you've arrived at a waypoint, is there any advantage to using ITN files rather than just using the route as transferred? I expect my waypoints would just be markers to set out the route so I wouldn't need them once that's in the TomTom.
From what I can see there's only a 14-day trial on offer. I don't mind paying if it's going to be useful. Many years ago I painstakingly plotted a 3-day route through all the counties of England, Scotland and Wales, avoiding motorways, using a Michelin road atlas, pen and paper. I'd have jumped on MRA if it had been available then. I've never ridden in Spain before. We're visiting friends about half-an-hour south of Murcia. The ferry timing doesn't work very well for us so we're using the tunnel and heading down through France. The challenge is to do it with two overnight stops and trying to stay off the dull motorways as much as possible. All pointers welcome!
Yeah, I did think it might be a bit of a challenge. I did two stops to the Bol d'Or once and that was one too many, but we weren't hanging around. We can add a third night if necessary.
Only just spotted your post. Must've missed it while I was away north of the border. Decided this evening that we'll do the full road trip down then get a ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth on the return journey. I was planning to get stuck in to MRA tomorrow evening and start looking around for ideas for a route. Your suggestions will be an excellent place to start - cheers!. I've been to Rouen before (we stopped on the way back from the Bol d'Or) and you're right, it's lovely city, especially the cathedral.
