No worries Chuk. The full linkages, rear hub, brakes, head bearings, valves etc was £380 plus one single coffee! He found two linkage bearings were knackered but didn't have the gear to change them so I did them myself. Really good job all round.

I agree and tend to think of them as a set. The gearbox sprocket will be more worn still.

yes I have just replaced the chain and sprocket on my lads 675 tona the rear sprocket looked good but the front was well hooked. chain was definitely on its last legs as you could lift it way too much on the rear sprocket

Muddysump comes to your place to do the work, Chuk. May not be convenient for you but where I live it is a godsend as there is no dealer anywhere near.

Chuk, he travels all round the country. Gets a batch of jobs then does them over a couple of days. Based in North East somewhere. Worth an email.

Ok, going to try and do this whole valve clearance check on my older speedy today (2013).
Not done any major engine works on 4-stroke engines so feeling a but nervous about the whole thing.
But...its great fun to learn new things.

Have looked at a German fella on youtube doing it and have the Haynes manual. Hopefully that will be enough
    .

Also made sure the shed where work will be carried out is somewhat soundproof so that the neighbours don't have to take part of the swear word combos I more than likely will invent.

Have fun! Did mine during lockdown. Checking is no problem just quite time consuming. If clearances need changing then your up another level of scaryness, but it's quite rare to be needed.
Triumph manual says to remove cover to the rear at an angle, after half an hour of trying decided that was impossible, got it out sideways as shown in your video. Think I removed the reed valve covers to give a bit more jiggle room too.
Worth taking a few photos as you go, helps when putting it all back together. Slow and methodical is the way to go, lots of connections not to forget as it all goes back together. :)

    @Col_C @Ducatitotriumph

    Thanks for the advice.

I agree, I need to document this properly. Got the tank and some bits off a few months ago and didn't document it properly. So bringing the phone with me out to the sheed, thats for sure.

Ok, managed to get this done. Talk about that the the engineers totally forgot about the service aspect when designing this bike. In the end I managed to wiggle out the calve cover on the right side instead of the left as instructed in the video (pre 2011 speed triple tho, might be different.).

Clearance was ok but didn't have any glue for the seal but hope its ok anyway.

Now its just a case of remembering where the rest of the pieces were suposed to fit :)

Good to hear, I'm guessing you found all clearances within spec?
In my experience it always ends up feeling like a lot of effort and was a waste of time, but in the end good to know everything is as it should be.

Its exactly what I feelt afterwards :joy: "what a waste this was" but as you say, Its good to know they are all fine for another 15000Km.

Half way through measuring away I noticed that I had lost a nut on the feeler gauge set.

    Image-1.jpg

Trying to find a small nut in the engine wasn't the easiest task. Had to have a beer and started a search party in the sheed.

And managed to find it on the floor after an hour.

    Image-11.jpg

Its nice to deepen the relationship with the bike.
Next up is the headstock bearing lubrication, saw the fantastic "not a motorcycle mechanic" doing it and didn't look to complicated.

Thanks for all the support :)
