What if it was a loyal forum member who complained because he was of pakistani heritage and was fed up of being lumped in with those perverts? Is he allowed to complain or is he a snowflake?
Jez knows what I think of his racial views... but using terms such as being “man enough” and other threatening language isn't encouraging the offended To interact in a more open fashion is it?
I think you misunderstand me fella, I’m not saying Jez has threatened anyone... as far as i can tell he hasn’t! What I’m saying is that by your words and priveteers words... its a threatening environment for a reasoned discussion... “He's a snowflake if he isn't man enough to debate his views on here, but instead goes to admin with his complaint.” privateer “Don't be a fecking pussy” Ron A tell me that’s not threatening language? that’s why you don’t get the discussion and some one goes to admin instead... Least it looks that way to me
Ahh, I misread the article. I looked back when I saw subsequent posts. Somewhat that language difference and a consequence of me not reading carefully enough. I've not heard the term "Year 7" and read it as age 7. So I guess Year 7 would be our 7th grade then. Now my thoughts are a bit different as there's quite a difference developmentally between 7 year olds and 11/12 year olds. Thanks for the corrections, Vulpes and MrOrange. I still think it's a poorly designed assignment. Perhaps a different format for thought on the issue--a teacher-led discussion or some such thing--with the purpose of helping kids learn to think and to participate in discussions with differences of opinion. Just having the kids write about it Perhaps the article didn't describe the assignment fully (or maybe I still didn't read it well enough) but simply assigning an essay as homework is pretty lazy teaching pedagogy.
Ra What you have to remember is this could well have been worded far differently from the original task set, but as it's in the British media, it will have been twisted to get the right amount of impact and cause moral outrage amongst their readers and those retweeting, etc. Sadly this is all the media can do nowadays, rather than reporting facts and standing up against for the greater good. It's all about outrage and offence now.
At this point I would like to apologise to @dilligaf for any offence I might have caused him by repeatedly calling him 'Dilli'
But can I still call citizens of the United States of America the 'Y' word or is that now not PC? Life is getting very complicated all of a sudden
The trouble is Ron @MrOrange you overstep the mark as Admin. I think you let your personal views colour your judgment. We are not school children, we are all adults and have our own views. It is not your place to pass judgment on us. Sorry if this upsets you but just because someone objects to something said, that's no reason to react in the way you do.
As far as i can tell, @Dozers Dad is only banned from this thread... for 7 days... he is able to talk in another thread if he desires it... please let me know if this is true or not? any way... here’s a grown man’s thread where these thorny problems can be discussed without spoiling a perfectly good rant thread! https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/sensible-talk-for-outraged-sensible-people.22127/
