Recently acquired a most excellent CRK Roadster based on the Trophy 1200 4 cyl. Which variant /part no of carbs are fitted to this bike. Just getting to know it and looking at tuning but research has thrown up a lot of variants. Also read Suzuki Bandit 1200 circa 2000 have very similar carbs too? Any help or advice on tuning these much appreciated thanks all
Nope...running great. A show bike in fact so was properly set up by previous owners. Its running a Ramair filter due to nature of the build, correctly jetted etc. My question is more as to which carbs were fitted. I know they are Mikuni and possibly BT36's? I'd just like to know. This aint my first rodeo so to speak so am always looking for optimum tuning.
According to my Owner's Handbook of 1995, Mikuni BST 36mm flat slide CVs were fitted across range (Tridents, Trophies, Daytonas etc.) at that time, although there is no mention of Thunderbirds or Tigers in the book - probably a different one for those models.
Probably some benifit from fitting normal slide carbs for better response and go up to 38mm if you fit a decent free flow exhaust...if you like a few more revs throw some cams at it and go to 40mm...some of the older GSXR carbs may well fit.
Lift the caps off the carburetors , find the vacuum bypass port and drill it out a smidgen ! Then lift the needles about 30,000 to 50,000th's of an inch ! With a K&N or similar air filter and a free flowing exhaust , This is the cheapest performance enhancing mod you can do ! Carburetion is close to best optimum ! Just slightly restricted because of Emissions legislation and restrictions ! Did this mod on my 94 Trident , went from great too awesome ! Could out accelerate Daytona's and Speed triples , and had better top speed than any of the T300 based Triumphs .
@Pike did you change anything with your carburation ? Or have you settled for standard settings ? Trident cam profile and timing was the best for all round performance , 1992 -1996 were best , the mod I suggested quickens throttle response and adds hp/torque for little outlay ,just some time and effort. Can take a couple of attempts to get needles set right heights .
Thanks for the Reponses. The attached/enclosed picture should show why it's been tuned to the Ramair filter fitted in place of the airbox. This is by no means a standard Trophy 1200. As explained earlier in this thread. It has been set up accordingly by the builder, Ian Saxcoburg of Café Racer Kits. Just wanted info for tuning purposes which I have researched and obtained. Final tuning to get correct idle is proving a bit of a challenge but that is the trade off when fitting an aftermarket air intake I have found. Runs great off the mark though and in its lightened guise pulls like a train!
