The chain on my Speedie will soon need adjusting. My Haynes says you do the job with the bike on the side stand which seems a bit daft to me as every other bike I've had you use the main stand. My Speedie has a main stand and I have a chassis lift to help with cleaning and maintenance. Surely using either would be better than using the side stand. Any help appreciated and many thanks in advance.
It's quite important that if you use the adjustment numbers in the book you must use the sidestand. The reason why is explained in this video : If you use the mentioned numbers from the book, but have the bike on the centre stand (while you adjust it) what happens is that the chain tension will be much too tight when the bike is on the ground, with you aboard it. Bad news !!!
It had a new chain and sprocket set on when I bought it and fitted a Scotoiler pdq after so it don't need lubing either. either.
Hi, I have just cleaned lubed and checked adjustment to my chain but when I checked behind drive chain sprocket cover I could not believe the amount of old chain wax and grit caked in this area, all done now for winter moth ball.
