I have a 2018 XRt. I am Lookin at the Michelin PR5 Trail Tires but they don't seem to have the 100/90-19 fronts. Has anyone used the 110/80 with good results. The dealer said that The different size front could mess with the ABS. I mainly use the bike to commute to work, about 110 miles a day the majority on the freeway. I am looking for good wet weather traction, as it is coming to the wet season here in CA. Thanks
Hello mate and welcome. Same issue with the 800 tigers. A lot of owners, me included, have fitted the 110 80's to the front. No issues with abs or anything else. Go ahead and fit them with confidence, you wont be disappointed. They're a great tyre in all conditions. Edit, just reread your post Onegear. You don't say if you have a 1200 or 800 tiger. Doesn't matter either way. 110 80 fits both models. I have an 800 xrt.
Personally, if off-road work is very small, ie less than 10% of your riding, I would go for Michelin PR5's. In California I'm guessing the weather is pretty-much always good, so you won't be going through mud when you're off-roading just dry fire trails and such so you don't need anything with "trail" in the tyre name. If you take this approach you'll have noticeably better grip and wear on road. Dave
Yes, I agree Dave. Just to be clear, although I didn't mention it, I was talking about the Michelins as well as the sizing issue.
Hi Johnjo, yes I get what you mean. I was trying to differentiate between PR5 road tyres and the alternative Trail version. The PR5's on road in the wet are pretty much identical to riding in the dry. They are THAT good in the wet, on-road. I've got them on my Tracer 700. I've ridden on-road in all weathers without any worries at all, I've got about 1500 kms (about 1000 mls) left in them and they already done over 14,000 kms (about 8,800 mls). They are also good for dry off-road stuff.
Mess with ABS? Laughable!!! Now it might conceivably be an issue with traction control systems that measure differences between front and rear wheel rotation speeds using ABS signal generators but the ABS itself is concerned with lack of rotation not speed of rotation.
Dave, unfortunately us tiger owners cant get the road version in our tyre size. It's the 19" front wheel that's the problem. Standard front tyre is a 100/90/19, but the 110/80/19 Michelin produce in the trail version fits nicely. It's particularly good in the wet too. Not sure about wear rates on the trail. Only got about 2k on mine.
Thanks Guys. I believe the Shop mentioned the Traction Control issue may be of concern due to the different radius. If people are having good luch with the 110 80s then I may give it a try. I just need some nice tires for "Winter". Yes its basically just rain I have to drive in. Thanks a bunch.
Thanks for the Link. I currently have the Tourance Next which have developed crackes that run along the bottom of the tread cuts which is not really confidence inspiring.
My tiger 800 had 80’s put on at my last tyre change and I didn’t notice anything significantly different, had Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2’s put on and found them to be excellent, done over 10,000 miles of mixed roads, no off road, and just looking to get another pair now, rear us squaring off and front has some uneven wear.
I had the Michelin Road 5's fitted to my XRX last time. Absolutely no issues and a good tyre. had Pirelli Scorpion Trails on before but these may be slightly better. The ABS thing is nonsense!
