So had a King Edward Invincible cigar earlier and when I struck the match, caused a discussion whether I was right or wrong to strike away. I always believed to strike away but I was told this is rude and considered poor form.....
If you strike towards you then you can cup it and shield it from the wind, don't know about the etiquette bit though
1. Support the match body near the head but not on it. 2. Hold striker surface in a nearly vertical position, the base slightly further away from your body than the top. 3. Gently, but firmly, engage the match head with the striker surface. 4. Effect a loci curve along the striker surface with the match head. 5. Gaze perplexed at the match head that has simply chamfered down to wood. 6. Discard useless match and replace with another in prime virginal condition. 7. Repeat steps 1 to 4 8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 9. Repeat step 7. 10. Move feet from path of blazing, but falling match head. 11. Repeat step 7. 12. Position blazing match into cupped hands and wait for chemical ignition of match to die down. 13. Start to position cigar’s “burn end” into match flame. 14. Repeat steps 11 to 13, but this time not breathing out onto match and extinguishing it. 15. Try to draw the flame carefully into the cigar tip by sucking on the mouth section of the cigar. 16. Snip the tip of the cigar’s mouthpiece to allow oral drawn air passage through the cigar. 17. Repeat steps 11 to 15 18. With successful cigar ignition, wave hands wildly in the air to stop burning flesh from leaving the match burning too long. 19. Enjoy cigar, safe in the knowledge that you look cool as Arnie...
