Well I’m back from my ride today and she got 7022 km’s on her now and maybe it was a little too much. I started the day with 6790 km’s.
Yeah you’re right. I should have kept going . Honestly I’m not sure how much longer it would have lasted. It’s only the one spot on the tire that looks like that, but that leads me to believe the rest of the centre strip isn’t far behind. Oh well, I got my money’s worth out of those for sure, and possibly hold the record for longest lasting supercorsa
Just fitted a set of the M7RRs. Far too early to tell if I like them, but they look lovely! Hoping to get a ride in a the weekend, will be interesting to see how they feel.
Ok thanks. That means we have the V3’s on our bikes then. Looks like the V2 is maybe a little better suited for the road, as it has extra groves.
Hi All. I have roughly 400km on my Metzeler M7RRs, and I have to admit, I’m really pleased. Tyres (a bit like restaurants) are of personal taste, so I’m almost reluctant to recommend in case others don’t get on with them. Obviously my bike came with the stock Supercorsas, and I should probably share that I am not a fan. Yes, they are great on decent surfaces on dry days, but wet and/or broken tarmac is just not fun. In contrast, the M7RRs are a revelation. On real roads (away from the track) they are every bit as fast as the SCs (for me, at least). The bonus comes when you ride over patches of gravel, or damp, and don’t get that vague heart-in-mouth feeling I used to have with the SCs. Granted, this could all be in my head, but right now I’m enjoying the bike so much more that I don’t care. Please bear in mind that I ride a lot in Malaysia on pretty crap roads. If I lived somewhere with proper roads I might not be so excited. As a bonus, the Metzelers seem to have a slightly better ride quality (on broken surfaces). Obviously they haven’t turned the RS into a 1200GS, but by slightly rounding off the very sharpest edges of the roads I ride, my bike is just more fun. Lastly, did anyone else clock that Ducati launched the Streetfighter V4 (and the Panigale V2) on Pirelli Rosso Corsa II tyres? If Ducati don’t feel that a 204hp naked motorcycle needs SC rubber, then neither do I. Honestly, it feels like the choice of fitting Supercorsas as stock by Triumph is driven by marketing rather than how the majority of bikes are used by the majority of owners (on the majority of days). Rant over....
I should probably add a couple of PSs. PS. I had Rosso IIIs on my last bike and they were great. For all I know I would be equally as pleased with those compared to the M7RRs. They seem to be aimed at similar markets. PPS. I think the Rosso Corsa IIs might be an excellent choice for anyone who wants to keep the feel of the SCs, but wants a tyre that gives a little more performance in sub-optimal conditions. Would be interested to know if anyone has tried them. (Or the S22s, which are also supposed to be great). PPPS. Yes, the SCs look awesome. Like a proper track day refugee. And I would miss that aspect of owning something that looked that nice if riding it wasn’t so much better on the Metzelers.
I had the Corsa IIs on my bike. They wear better than the SCs but the dual compound is a visible change in rubber and the softer compound wears quicker giving a slight ridge. I have not seen this on other dual compound tyres I have used . I ended up with a Metzler M7RR on the rear due to stock. Its seems OK re grip etc. but does not feel as stable as the Pirellis...
Sounds like they were the right choice for you, that’s awesome. Yeah I noticed the lack of supercorsa’s too on the Ducati. The roads I ride are pretty good for the most part with some gravel here and there and those dangerously annoying tar snakes (road cracks that are repaired and are slippery as hell), do your roads have them? Supercorsa’s are not ideal here either, but seemed to hook up pretty well most of the time. I’m looking forward to next year with new rubber, and I’m hoping I have the same experience as you have had. I’ve had a few different pirelli tires so I’d like to try another brand. I think the M7RR’s or the new S22’s would work well. A while back I even considered a sport touring tire but have decided against them at this time. I’m jealous you get to ride year round, man that would be awesome. On the west coast of Canada we get 4-6 months of riding, with 2-3 of those months having warm weather. Interesting. Where do you notice a loss of stability? Another tire you may want to consider is the continental sport attack 3’s. They are single compound rubber that is cured at different temperatures to achieve a harder centre for longer wear and soft side for leaned over traction with a seamless transition. My brother has them and loves them.
