Broadband providers are like the mobile industry. Robbing cnuts.

I've been with BT for 15 years and its up for renewal. Im currently paying £20 per month (plus £100 reward card) more than a new customer would. They tell me Im on the best deal but obviously not!

Looking to switch provider to Plusnet possibly.
Anybody got experience with them or any good alternatives?

BT own Plusnet but they are cheaper and better.

I used to be with Sky and every time my contract ran out I would call up to cancel. That's when you get the good deals. Usually they pass you onto someone that will get you a far better deal just to keep you.
Give it a go before you look elsewhere if you like Sky.

I was with BT for about 5 years, then I switched to PlusNet. I've no complaints with PlusNet, they are cheaper, use UK based call centres, and bizarrely I've had less downtime with PlusNet then I used to get with BT. I work from home and need my broadband continually throughout the day and I've only had 1 outage in 2 years and that just needed the router to be switched off and on again.

Also if you currently have a BT Home Hub router, you can continue to use that, and not have to bother swapping out equipment, you just need to change a couple of config settings which PlusNet Support will guide you through.

Before you bin BT - how much do you pay for your mobile phone? Or your other half's... If you don't already have a mobile deal as well with BT price up their family SIM-only packs. We have both our mobiles on a family pack, 4GB of data each and unlimited calls/texts for a pittance each month because we have BT broadband and home phone. It's not cheapest for everyone but I could not get anything like the data allowance for less. Yes they want all of your business but tacking on an extra item often costs peanuts compared to buying it separately.

Its a good point but mines a company one and Mrs owl has her own provider. Im going to give BT a call tomorrow and tell them I want the new customer deal. I pay £79 per month for Superfast 2 inc BT Sport (£16 instead of £25) We have 2 PS4/SkyQ multiroom plus 4 phones and 1 tablet (not all at same time!).
I get good service with BT and like the tip that can keep their router with plusnet as the router is pretty highly rated.

    Thanks for all the replies

Benefit of this, aside from the BT Hub being quite good, is that you don't have to change the setup of any of your connected devices.

Wish I had a choice! We have a closed exchange, and get 1/2mb of linespeed with bt. We pay full whack though, as we get "up to" 20mbps. It's all in the wording.

As a result internettificating is a virtual impossibility, streaming anything is a big nono. So bt is there for long slow downloads overnight, and we use a satellite uplink. £70 a month, and worth every penny. (did I mention we live in the middle of the centre of the middle of nowhere?)

Family have plusnet up in Thurso, and seem happy with it. We would too, if we could get it, but given the location it would still be 1/2mbs. Or wotteva they call it. 10 times dialup, pretty much.

Had BT but constantly losing comms, they tested line etc etc but still no stability. Switched to SKY - and it's never been so good. If the comms go down - I get a text to advise local issue - saves me pratting around with my connections

Been with TalkTalk for several years now and was getting a 37.5 mbs fiber and all phone calls for £35 a month and also two free mobiles (older not so smart) with small plans for just £10 a moth ...only use mostly to call the wife etc,
Anyway recently noticed that we where out of contract and getting charged £55 a month so rang them up and got the whole package back to £35 a month and the speed increased to 74bms........but i still dont get that its mostly around 59mbs which is above the guaranteed 52 mbs so they dont bother...but on the scale of things that's not too bad.

I have Plusnet for BB, home phone and mobile. Their customer service is good - you always speak to someone in the UK and they are always helpful. Cheap too so worth giving them a look. If you get Plusnet BB then you get a slightly better deal on a SIM only mobile contract (they do 30 day and 12 month contracts) normally by giving unlimited calls/texts.

When you binned BT did you lose your BT email account ?
It's just that I'm thinking of going with Vodaphone but I've got so many accounts with banks/insurance companies etc etc that it would be a nightmare to change my email address with everyone.

Hi Andy, if it's the same as over here you can keep any and all old e-mail addresses. When you set up the new one, you then add pretty much any number of existing ones and the one will collect all mail from the old ones you nominate.
