Are Speed Twin owners happy with their purchase, or, after a few miles would you have chosen a different model/brand? Is the build quality excellent? Initially I was pleased with my Street Twin, but now, after 1K miles I find it a bit underpowered. So was looking at a Speed Twin and finding prices on used ones too high for me. (Are they still too new?). Also, when in the store I spotted a BM Pure and cocked a leg over it, I like it, especially the shaft drive, plus of course the extra horses over the Street Twin. Nearly 5,000 miles on my Speed Twin and very happy with it. Had a new front wheel, discs and pads fitted 2,000 miles ago, due to bad brake vibration. All good now and would buy again. It's taken us to The Netherlands, Spain and France this summer, it tours reasonably well for a naked.
I have a Street twin. I made the mistake of test riding a Speed Twin today. All I can think about now is how underpowered my street twin is.
Pleased with mine, had to change the rear shocks as i didn't like the handling at first and also fitted 1 tooth extra to the front sprocket, now happy with the improvement they have made.
Mine has 3000 miles now, I'm always very happy with my choice, the Speed Twin is really a fantastic bike
I have about 3k miles on my Speed Twin and absolutely love it!!! Puts a smile on my face every time I ride. Others have talked about needing to make changes to suspension, but I personally haven’t felt the need to...yet. The Speed Twin has been one the funnest bikes I’ve ever owned.
Hi bob 1, having fitted a pair of rear shocks and shorter bar risers that improved the feel of the bike i then thought about improving it further before spending loads on fork cartridge kits, first i was going to remove some links from the chain to shorten the wheelbase but then though if i put 1 up on the front and 2 on the rear i could do the same job, having done the front sprocket only that shortened the W/B by 5mm only i thought i would give it a try and i quite liked it, as for lack of acceleration on a traffic light run with Su on her 1200 i eek a little on her as i hang onto first longer but she comes back at me in second as i then change into second and so the seesawing goes on, as a rough guide at around 70 mph to keep it legal for this experiment Su is doing 4000 rpm in 6th and i am in 5th gear at the same revs, i might leave it as is for now
Hi, I've done nearly 5000 miles on my speed twin and loved everyone of them. Down through France, through Wales, Sunday jaunts out, the odd rush hour ride to work, it does everything and looks fantastic. All I've changed is the seat, not very exciting I know but I'll start fettling with it over the winter months.
No. I would not buy a Speedtwin Again. I have put 5000 miles on the bike and feel it’s a flawed motorcycle. A continuous problem with front brake noise, Triumph has replaced the pads twice and the rotors once. Other than that, it’s a fun bike to ride. I plan on getting rid of the bike in the next couple months.
Loved the idea of my Speed Twin. It goes well, very well, and handling is ok until pushing hard so keeps it all interesting. But mine has not been the most reliable. New clutch at 2800k and the damn brake issue is wearing me down. If I get that sorted I’ll be in love all over again. Get yourself a test drive.
Loving mine so far, although it's only been 600 miles. Some sort of touring will happen next year, and hopefully a few more jaunts before it's wrapped up for Winter. I'm happy with my selection; this was a "heart" choice instead of "head" saying Vstrom....

I can't answer your question, though I'm really happy with my Beemer (R1200S), which I've had for over 7 years now. The boxer is a great, fun engine in my opinion. I'm curious - no criticism intended - as to why you change bikes so often. I'm at the opposite end - the shortest time I've own any bike was 3 years - a VFR750 that I never really gelled with. The longest nearly 10 years, an Aprilia Falco that I always felt was better than me, so I was trying to improve and experience its full potential. Have you just not found a bike you like, or is it too many bikes out there and not enough time to ride them all? As I say, just curious to hear a different approach/experience to bike ownership.
Hi Biker Jock, This is a repeat, but here goes. Had a Goldwing around 25+ years ago and it got stolen. As I was still working with not much me time I decided to not replace that bike. Fast forward to June ‘18 and me 75+ years I decided to grow old disgracefully. Went to local shop to buy a Benelli Leoncino Scrambler (Which they didn’t have) that was being advertised. Saw a nice 3 year old Honda 1100 ES retro and I could almost reach the floor when seated on it, so I bought it. Found it a bit tall,wide,heavy and not ideal for me in town although I thought it a brilliant bike. That went and was replaced by a Honda 1300 cruiser bought through the post, so didn’t see it until it came.(I know!) Bit too low (Heavy too) and not sure about feet forward, anyway I spotted a Honda 750 Shadow 2010 with only 1100 miles and just as new, so the 1300 went in against the Shadow, again unseen. Shadow was lovely bike but under powered and I decided then that feet forward def. wasn’t for me. Traded Shadow in against a Ducati Monster 696...Having a worn out lower back, spondylitis in me neck and needing 2 new knees and 1 hip the riding position just didn’t suit me. Went back to Ducati store and asked if they could put Ducati Scrambler handlebars on my Monster...’Erm, possibly, leave it here’. Called after 3 weeks to be told ‘Yes, we’ve looked at it and no, we don’t think we can do the job and, if we could it would be expensive!’ Traded it in for a Ducati Scrambler 803. Okay. Then found out who the previous owner was and decided I no longer wanted it, was worried about its provenance. So, I had a ride out locally and called in the Triumph store, found my little legs would let me almost flatfoot a Street Twin...left the Duc. there and taxied home and the ST was delivered couple days later. I have had the Triumph since late June this year (Record for me) and really enjoy riding it, but, at only 900cc I now find it underpowered (Been blown into the weeds by a young girl in a car!). I was looking at Speed Twins but the seem to command a little more than I want to pay, so thought, as I’d not had a Beemer before I’d give one a try. Would not have bought one if there wasn’t a R Nine T in their lineup. Do like the (Marmite?) styling of these bikes. Might just look at a Speed Twin next summer, if I’m not happy with my new ride.
