Hear we go again I hear you say, well us ol Norfolk boys can't help it. My new to me 2011 T100 is great except on a few occasions when the starter button is pressed she can be a bit hesitant despite the battery connected to a Optimate, So I thought to myself she's perfect in every way, she can have a new battery. Now the confusion, the main agent wants to sell be a battery £72 he said but I cannot just go get it. No!! no he said we have to fill the new battery with acid and that takes a bit of time. what's your card details? wait wait. Lead acid battery, that's not normally sealed for life, have an accident, lead acid all over the place. That's the reason bike batteries are Gell these days and are sealed for life. I don't know, I can't believe the main agent is wrong either, Can anyone show me the way? Thanks for reading that epic. Mallywoods again.
Sounds like a hard sell and very few bike batteries are NOT AGM these days.... https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-...MIk5WeuoSN5QIVVuDtCh2wJwHSEAAYASAAEgJy4_D_BwE Get one online. I suggest an 180 amp or better for vigorous starting!
Doesn’t really matter I have both and it’s what’s cheapest as they never last long. They both have problems in different ways. Haven’t had a acid battery that I recall spueing it’s guts out in a long time and always spend less than £30
I think it is to do with new regulations because of acid attacks, where some lovely people have taken to using it as a weapon
A lot if not all of the AGM, absorbed glass matting batteries, come dry from the manufacturer. Once received the acid is inserted and sealed with a fixed for life plastic plate. The liquid chemically combines to create a gel. Spillage in the event of later accident would be minimised due to this gel creation. Shelf life wouldn't come into it due to the shop's stock being held dry. I personally would accept what the dealer said when understanding the aforementioned detail. If youre happy with the product and price then purchase without worry
Interesting points about lithium. I am quite a technical and cynical person so the fact that they offer so much especially the weight saving is great but what's the downside? A few less pork pies on my behalf would give me the same weight saving and at a significantly reduced cost
Many thanks for all the replies, I went to Halfords and got an original OEM and all is now good. However it has to be said that a relative simple post can come up with lots of opinions, and I learn from each one of them, so thank you all. I am sure I will come up with another topic soon, ( stop yawning ) Mallwoods
Did you use the forum discount? I dont use it but I'm sure others could clarify the detail (subscriptions etc) if you weren't aware and wanted to in the future.
Thanks, we are both DD obviously in the same camp of companies adding 50% then in a sale or with discount take 30% (or so) off as the bargain of the century
The Bonneville definitely suffers from inadequate battery capacity. My Sportsters have 20Ah batteries and are much the better for it, especially in terms of CCA.
Norfolk calling! 'A bit hesitant' do you mean that the engine turns over and doesn't fire or there is no starter motor activity? There will always be a delay in the start sequence until the ECU check is complete, the clue on my T100 is watching for when the fuel gauge illuminates, presumable the last item on the check list. Who remembers when we just had a key and a kick-start?
