Hello all, mallywoods here from Norfolk, need a bit of help though, having sold my ageing sprint, I need a new bike, looking at the T100 as it fits my budget, seen many used low milage good examples, however they are far away, my local dealer has offered me a good deal on a new one, lots of electronics to go wrong, do they go wrong are they reliable?? do I travel and buy a good low mileage used one??? Not ridden one yet, but are they ok for a run up the motor way 70 to 80 for reasonable periods of time, as I do like a trip to France properly every other year..????
Hi Mally, and welcome in Ultimately the decision can only be yours. If the deal on the new one is good and you are happy to spend the cash then go for it, but if funds are a bit tighter then used is your way forward There are advantages and disadvantages to each and I won't insult your intelligence by listing them but only you can know which you'd be happiest with. Good luck and have fun
Well looking at that to me know its a no brainer used is the way to go, as you say only have to travel once. still one question unanswered, is the T100 capable of cruising at motorway speeds as I do go to France every other year. Is there anyone out there who do a bit of travelling on a T100??
Hi Mally, I used to have a T100 efi that I bought 2nd hand in England (I live in France). First thing, I sold her for more than I paid for her after 5 yrs so that's not too bad is it? Also I kept her for 5 yrs so that's also a good testimony. I used to enjoy local ride-outs and the looks the bike would get. However, touring on my T100 ? I came to England on her and did a 3000 kms tour, but honestly it was torture - even after changing the suspension and the seat she was still not long-distance comfortable. If doing long-distance work is an important criteria think long and hard before buying ANY Bonny version, that's my advice.
Good morning Mally and welcome aboard. I have bought very few new bikes. I almost always opt for the used market, Then I turn around and reinvest my savings on goodies for my new ride!
Hi, I'm on my second Bonneville, which I picked up from a dealer with 1800 miles on the clock and 4 years old. I've done long distances on them (Germany via the channel tunnel from Winchester) and they are fine cruising at motorway speeds, although it can get a little tiring. The seat is the problem - more than 2 hours and its painful. You can get alternatives that seem to work though. I found that the standard seat on my current SE was uncomfortable so I swapped it for the stock seat from a T100 and I can ride around all day now, but aftermarket seats, gel seats or re-shaped seats are easily available.
I am looking at a 2011 Bonneville, only 2300 mms for £4500, it is fuel injection, is that classed as a T100?? Also would that be ok for the trips you mention above?? thank you for the reply.
Hi mate and Welcome to the Forum used is (nearly) always the cheapest option, the added bonus is that normally some of the extras you want are already on the bike too!
Malcolm Woods. Welcome to the family. I wouldn't run up the motorway with it. Get on and ride the bloody thing. Then you will know if its for you or not. Regards Joe
this is a 2011 with 2,200miles 3 owners and £4500, not had triumphs before so I have questions, is this a T100 also and basically is it worth it, I don't know haven't a clue.
If its not a T100, does that matter, is it the same engine, Im told its fuel injected. I thank you for your reply much appriechiated.
so does that mean if a service light comes on it has to go to a main agent to put the service light out.????? sounds a bit of hassle when I normally do my own oil and filter changes.
