Welcome to join us for the ride. You would need some accommodation as the place we are staying at will be full.
    Regards
    Joe.

i'd asked you about your trip Joe, has your mate got any daily routes organized or will you just decide on the day whereabouts you are heading? i might manage to meet you for a days ride,i won't need to find accommodation as where i live it's easy to get to most places in Scotland for a days ride

No plans yet just want to see as much as I can. Perhaps you could point us in the right direction. My mate has been there and loves it to pieces. I just want to visit the birth place of the Mc Donald clan. I did find the original mail about 1:30 this morning.
    Kind Regards
    Joe.

Yes I will love it. Nearly Scottish myself if it were not for a little bit of water between us. We are doing Glencoe and the castle and the locks. And other than that just hopping from place to place. It will be great. And we may get to meet.
I will give you my phone number before I come and then we can get in touch.
    Regards
    Joe.

    Hi Joe,

If you haven't been before you are in for a real treat, I live up in Inverness and have rode most of the routes in Scotland and there are some really nice routes a lot of them single track.

    Enjoy,

    Willie.

Yes peeps really looking forward to it. My pal is doing most of the planning and yes he said mostly country roads and single track. No I have never been there yet and will love every bit. I won't be or am not up to a Sandi T Type write up but I will send some bits back for the peeps.
    Regards
    Joe.

Great, Joe. We'll just be happy to see you photos and hear about your adventures--it doesn't need to be in "real time". Spend that real time enjoying your travels! :grinning:

That's going to be an epic trip. I am envious. I've toured Scotland a couple of times with an old school friend who knows all the best roads.

My favourite road (I'll try to find it and let you know) was a single-track road with passing places (doesn't sound great, I know). It was about 35 miles along a valley floor, heading south east towards north of Inverness, but the road surface was excellent, you could see way into the distance, so no surprises coming the other way, and hardly any traffic - maybe a couple of cars on the whole length. Oh, and great scenery.

Bealach na ba (pass of the cattle) is an interesting road - I believe a favourite of George Brough. We just went to the top of the pass for the views and didn't descend the other side into Applecross. We did see a guy way behind us do a three point turn to get around one of the hairpins. Turns out he'd passed his test on Wednesday, picked up his new bike on Thursday and this was him off touring Scotland on Friday. Good man!

That looks fantastic. My Friend told me you have to watch for some of the twisties as they can catch you out. I now see what he means. Thanks for that.

    Joe.

EDIT: (originally got entirely the wrong road in this post - NOT the A837)
The road I mention in my previous post is the A838 that runs from Laxford Bridge, southeast to Larg. It's quite a way north of where you are based, and runs you back east, so you would end up having to come back over to your base from Inverness direction. Not the worst journey you'll ever have to do (if bad weather/breakdown/puncture etc are avoided).

But if you are heading north from your base, up towards Ullapool and beyond, find the Kylesku Hotel for the best lunch ever (in my opinion). The staff make you welcome, the scenery is stunning, and they serve the best food. A great lunch stop, and I don't remember wincing at the bill.

EDIT2: I just had a look at the menu on their website. Now I'm wincing at the prices! I think they might have been discovered by other folks.
