So I’ve recently purchased a T595 995i Daytona, it’s custom, cafe racer style. I’m currently rebuilding the front end as it had an extremely badly made fairing bracket that rattled the speedo to bits! I’m wondering if I can swap the old (1999) manual speedometer, with a new gen digital one, and retain all the same functionality?? (And yes I know I’ll need to swap the manual tacho cable for a digital magnet based one) Of course it’ll need wiring in correctly, but is there a best route to go down, as in, Will a 1050 tiger speedo work, or a 675 Daytona etc? Thanks in advance
You cannot use anything from ~ 2005 onwards, these are all CANBUS style instruments that will not accept any analog signals for speed or tach. So those examples you cited will definitely NOT work - their speed and tach info is on a digitally encoded data-stream from the ECU and there is simply no way to integrate that to utilize analog inputs directly You have a couple of other options however: 1) Simplest, is just to replace the speedo clock (in the TRi-cluster) with an electronic one from a Sprint ST (99-04) - the speed sender from same bike is a form & fit replacement for the mechanical drive speed sender on the front axle The Instrument itself is not quite a direct swap, but it's not that difficult from either physical fit, or electrical connection. (you will need to add a switch for the trip reset also) https://www.triumphrat.net/speed-tr...rade-for-97-01-speed-triples-and-daytona.html 1a) Similar to 1, but using an after-market gauge - this one looks to be about the same size as the OEM speedo - has additional functions also https://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/g...ell-ca85-modern-dial-multifunction-gauge-p380 2) You can swap the whole tri-cluster assembly for a digital set from an 02-06 Daytona (the Daytona, Speed Triple, Sprint RS and TT600 are all essentially the same - but the Daytona one specifically is going to be better matched in the RPM scale) Full details of that swap are here - https://www.triumphrat.net/speed-triple-forum/185821-digital-instruments-from-02-onto-97-01-a.html 2a) Similar to 2, but go with a complete after-market type of instrument panel e.g. https://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/gauges-c4/motorcycle-gauges-c27 (perhaps one of the KOSO line) Regardless of which route you go, you can use the schematics from my thread in item 2 above to know which signals/colour wires you would use to integrate any modern (but non-CANBUS) instrument
That is extremely helpful thank you. I’ve just read your thread about the conversion you did and found that very comprehensive too. I was thinking to go down the aftermarket digital route, but don’t want to lose too much functionality, or in truth, too much originality (even though the bike is very much not a Daytona anymore...) I will see if I can source a 02-06 Daytona clock and take it from there. Once I have one I will re read your other thread and see where I end up! Main issue currently is the huge amount of wiring and block connectors that need simplifying. ...will wait for the rain to stop first! Thanks again
Yes, between the Instruments and the OEM headlight harnesses - your best bet is to strip out to just behind the steering head an make up new mini harness for the instruments from there Of course my interconnect digram shows the OEM instrument connectors still in place, but if you're comfortable doing wiring, you might do as suggested and cut it back to behind the steering head (you could utilize a single connector there) - should make for fairly compact harness up to the instrument from there.
That sounds like a good plan, it’s unbelievably and unnecessary complicated around there, I get it from a modular bike to bike point of view, but I’m not swapping the harness onto anything else so just don’t need all the built in redundancy. Fingers crossed it’ll all be a lot neater and simpler once I get stuck into it
Here you go - re-did the interconnect diagram for you cutting back to a single connector (that would require a 16-way - you might also consider going with 2 x 8-way)
