It's 3:30 on Friday and I discover a screw in rear tyre. Off to the dealership who informed me that they will not fix tires, ok how much for a new one. $367.00, I said I don't need a new set, just the rear as I only have 1400 miles on them. The guy said with a grin that's just for the rear, and there's a $75 mounting charge to boot + tax. So off to the mom & pop bike shop and it's 4:20. Ask them if they have time to fix a tire, the owner comes out to look at tire, I can fix that as he pulls the screw and air starts to leak. So I got a professional combo plug with a patch on it applied from the inside, he properly buffed the inside, cleaned and applied patch plug, remounted tire. Cleaned and lubed chain. They sell tires at cost, or you can buy them online and bring them in and have them mounted He is a mechanic, but for diagnostic work not maintenance, they are booked solid untill mid October.
I'm sure most of us have found this sort of thing happens a lot. I NEVER buy tyres from a main dealer for this exact reason, be it for the bike or one of my cars as they are always ridiculously expensive. If I can go to an independent place I will - they depend on reputation to keep going and word of mouth goes a long way. Dealers have shiny showrooms and sharks, I mean salesmen, to pay for so will almost always be more expensive but care a lot less.
I think it was probably specially aged, as I don't think they sell many at that price ($190 or less online) Good air pressure today, per thump test. $79.54 on card, $70 cash price. Of course it's less $ fee for the front tyre. I might invest in some tyre spoons.
At that price it should come with a few bottles of specially aged Single Malt! I used to carry mushroom plugs and tyre weld, plus some canisters of compressed gas... Only ever used one once, to get me home from Wales, that was a big screw too, right in the centre. It worked well enough, but my mechanic at the time took a hissifit and told me to fit a new tyre, which I did. Young and had money in them days... Do they still do 'get you home' kits like that? I think the make was "riva" or "riga" ?
Answering my own question.... It was rema... https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Rema-Tip-T...W_k4aNoBG8Htzz7r3VhYWN3Vhs9AETMMaAn7FEALw_wcB
I can deal with tyre and colour, but there's no bloody way in hell my vehicle has a bonnet, it's got a hood, and maybe hood scoops. Bonnets are what old Amish women wear.
Maybe it does. I was looking for it. I misplaced one. I think I left one of them in the trunk of my wife's Volvo. All in fun guys. Us americans have a boatload of odd expressions. Language is just like that. ...J.D.
OMG! This is priceless---and filled with so many useful phrases. Two of my favorites upon the first (but certainly not last) reading of this document are "festive dog" and "do not explode the exhaust box at him." Oh my.
Very likely. I know I recycled it from somewhere, but I don't remember the source. Some of these things are just too good not to save, so I have a special file for them. ...J.D.
And Gears go in a gearbox ! Not a Transmission ..! Transmission is "the movement of power or artifact " from one place to another ! The gearbox transmits power from engine to tyres to produce relocation of passengers and vehicles
The better way to describe is; American spelling = WRONG English spelling = CORRECT! That's why it's called speaking English, not American!
There’s a few wrong there Ron. Practice is spelt the same here, we use CV (never heard any Englishman use resume) and we have colleges as well as Universities, though I think you mean that you call universities colleges.
