Took a ride up to Blade Triumph today with the wife as pillion on my Bonneville and Rudeboy on his Thruxton, the weather was kind of kind with only one short shower half way there. Had a chat with Steve the salesman (a true gent) and came away with a new Tiger 800 XCa in which I am hoping to collect on Tuesday next week. Full luggage is included which of course you are aware is offered on all new Adventure bikes. Bonneville has been traded in part ex. Happy days.

Great looking bike! I have my eye on finding a good used Tiger 800 sometime in the future. I don’t really want a shiny new one as I will quickly get it out on some unpaved roads, as well as use it for an all weather commuter. I am learning a bit about previous Tiger variants but have a long way to go to really pick one out. Hope yours is a goodun!
I plan to use this as commuter to be honest with weekend rides with Rudeboy (he’s my cousin) plus the wife likes to get out and about so we can do a few tours north and south of Bristol. One thing though I do plan to ride it lol

I am a Rudeboy but the names Nick this way not jealous at all im chuffed for him probably my fault hes even purchased it to be honest its a cracking machine so many buttons and switches im thinking what dont it do

Will do Joe. Talking of running in, are we a hard type school or a soft type school of running in. I have always thought that to run in soft and slowly was the way to go however I've also read that to ride in a normal but more aggressive manner is better for the engine ???. I have always been of the follow the rules type so will be taking things ultra easy and gentle but would like anyone in the know to have some input. I'm sure this would be just like a which tyre's question but hey its raining and I'm bored as I don't collect the bike until Tuesday midday and will have a lot to learn on what switch does what for a few days after lol.
I think with the modern engines it is exactly that idling until warm ect is all old school now with the scramblers you used to just thrash them from a new rebuild I did this on a RD 200 coffin tank and locked it solid at 60 mph didn’t do the back tyre much good
Andy-k2 Yes take into account that first 500 miles is crucial. The bike will be running on a flushing oil to settle all the metal parts in. Then its the reeves you have to watch keep them as low as possible. And like Rudeboy said start-up as normal let the engine warm and do its checks before any throttle. And Wales is great been around the Valleys a few times and only once did I get washed out. Love it there and love the locals. Regards & Ride Safe Joe.
Iv'e run in over 15 new bikes in as many years [ask DD] 1] Always warm it up 2] Don't let it labour,i don't take a pillion until you have done enough miles to do decent revs,like 5-6000. 3] Don't hold it at the same speed,you are running in the gearbox aswell,try and pick some hilly,bendy roads. I run them in for the full 1000mls and they are always better on fuel than other people with the same model.
Same here. I ran in my new bike (2018 Street Cup) by the book, now with over 6k on the clock I average nearly 80mpg and it runs strong.
Thanks guys. Pick her up Tuesday 3rd, cant get there any earlier due to work but really looking forward to the ride home with it. Swindon to Bristol down some really nice roads passing Castle Combe which should take a steady hour and a half, I might look at a map in a mo and try something a little longer however Rudeboy is usually the front rider as he does know his way around, for some reason I have forgotten most of the ways around and now rely on a satnav however he's in Torremolinos sunning himself with the All Inclusive tap of local lager running through his veins . I used to be a motorcycle courier using paper maps and learned very quickly which way was up however now I dont have a clue maybe the roads have changed that much,who knows but planning to ride this XCa as much as possible and hunt some nice roads in the south. Have contacted the Local Authority asking locations for Green Lanes, BOATS and Unclassified Roads in my area, waiting to hear back but not in any rush.
Good luck with the new machine and the ride back mate if you look on google maps you can come out of Swindon and run down A420 side and into malmsbury then get off at J17 Chippenham straight across to the back of castle coombe ir a longer route don’t take the right fork and carry on down past marshfield and into cold Ashton to the A46 then you can go right to bath yate sodbury ect or straight on down tog hill
