Glen Etive is a road I’ve past loads of times while riding up past Rannoch moor and into Glen Coe but never seemed to have the time to do it, It’s a single track road which is about 12 miles long, the road ends at Loch Etive it has Glorious scenery “Skyfall” & “Braveheart” filmed scenes there.

Yesterday I decided to make a point of going there, the road is about a mile past the Glen Coe Ski centre. If you are up by Glencoe and you have a couple of hours to spare it’s well worth making the effort

It was pretty hot Andy,on the road through Glen Etive there were a few really tempting rock pools:cool: with it being a bank holiday there were quite a few folk up there swimming in the pools

If you enjoy roads to nowhere the 22 miles from Invergarry to Loch Hourn - especially late p.m. into the setting sun - provides wonderful views and minimal traffic!

There are some really nice (expensive) cabins you can rent out just at the start of that road. just been on Google and there is a tea room & B&B right at the end of the road. looks a really narrow single track all the way but i don't suppose there would be much traffic on it, Scenery looks absolutey breathtaking!

Thanks for that, place noted and added to memory bank for future.
Weird as I'm getting older I can't remember where my keys are etc. but places and geography are indelibly ingrained ;)

You’ve only got to get a bit of decent weather and Scotland takes some beating for scenery. I’ve had a holiday in Kinloch Rannock some years ago and it looks like I’m overdue another visit. Cheers Dougie D.

I've seen Kinloch Hourne from the sea - it was pretty interesting getting in there with a yacht. Very narrow entrance, shallow, and loads of hidden rocks. It was worth the effort though - absolutely stunning views, and otters playing on the shore.

I've often wondered, when passing the Glen Etive sign, what it'd be like - looks brilliant!

It wouldn't have been much fun on the Speed Triple, you need a more upright riding position as a lot of the time you are only doing 20/30mph, i'd love to get something like the 800 Tiger to explore more of those single track roads, plus all those unpaved tracks up here that take you into the wilderness

Well if you head out West to Loch Hourn just remember Loch Garry and Loch Quoich are man made; it is a drowned landscape like Loch Clunie to the North. The Garry used to be a great fishing river that supported hotels presumably now demolished or converted to other uses.....not much alternative use in the middle of a wilderness cul de sac! You gets glimpses of the old tumbling Garry between the dams..
I remember as a wondrous 6 or 7 (diggers and bulldozers!) being driven over now submerged roads as stretches of today’s roads and the dams were being built Funny how 60s genuinely effective hydroelectric renewables were less worried about environmental impacts than today’s useless windmills!

Absolutely disgusting... And there was a lot more than this...

"To the free loading family who enjoyed a weekend camping by the side of Loch Garry - YOU FORGOT SOMETHING your dirty nappies , milk cartons , raw burgers , human excrement and tissue and the rest of your rubbish . Who is going to clean up after you ? Who is paying for your weekend of fun ? What sort of people are you that bring your children away and think this is an okay way to treat a place of such beauty ? This scene is being repeated all over the Highlands by people having a free weekend in our amazing scenery and it’s the people who live here who get left with the consequences. Please share this post and I hope if the people who did this see it they feel a tiny bit of shame #lochgarry #kinlochhourn #highlands #scotland #freeloaders #freecamping #ruiningourplanet #whowillcleanup #summer #rubbish #noshame #wildcamping #wildcampingscotland"

I know they say it's not the destination, but the journey. You have managed to have them both on this trip. Absolutely beautiful place and road!
