After weeks of pain from my knee opp which is now much better...i went to the dentist on Wednesday last week to have a tooth removed due to a pocket that kept getting infected...
anyway the dentist took out the tooth and off i went home only to find by Friday i am still in pain and there is still an infection so make an emergency appointment and the dentist washes out the socket and proscribes some Amoxicillin to sort the infection,

Saturday evening comes and its getting more painful so for the first time i get the wife to have a look and she says it looks like the tooth root is still there so had a look myself and i am 99% sure its is... which means that the dentist broke it and didn't tell me and further to that failed to inform me when he washed out the socket on the Friday...so i am fooking livid and have written and email to the practice manager to that effect.

So despite having rung NHS 111 for an emergency dentist there are none available bank holiday weekend so i am stuck popping co codamol like its going out of style until Tuesday when i hope the practice gets back to me with a solution.

I have mentioned the fact that i will e contacting the NHS ombudsman regarding this because i consider it to be malpractice and will be taking it further as the bastid has left me in pain for days when it could have been so easily sorted at the time...sorry for the moan but toothache gets to you after a few days and i have had enough!:(:(:(:(

Was supposed to be going the the Fenman Classic bike show today as well.:(

Bad news, indeed, TD! Toothache is just so debillitating. Hope you manage to keep the pain undercontrol long enough to get the whole thing resolved satisfactorily. Good luck with it.

I find the best thing for pain is Brandy and plenty of it. Brandy is/was used in old fashioned pain remedy concoctions. On the subject of your dentist, I view them all as cnuts. They rip people off and they do not provide an "out of hours" service, they should be required to do so by law in my opinion. They make enough money. There are law firms that will pursue claims for negligence against dentists, I hope you will sue the b'stard.

Well I hope you get it sorted soon. And bad news indeed. That means we won't get our fresh instalment of classics to look at now till next year.
    Regards
    Joe.

A lot of variables here but I think what you have is a ‘Dry Socket’ (potentially after a traumatic extraction) and your bone is exposed, hence the ongoing pain. The dentist probably tried to rinse off your socket during second visit.

It should get better after a couple of days and anti-biotics are a must to prevent secondary infection.

Not professional advice though. Good luck with it.

Thanks guys!:) talked to the practice manager this morning and got an appointment for this afternoon and talked to the dentist about wheather it was in fact a broken tooth and he took another x-ray and did a big wash out of the socket it seems there was something lodged in the socket...dont know what but it was sealing the cavity which had a fair bit of food partials in which combined with the original infection was probably causing so much pain and preventing it from healing.

Anyway the dentist has packed the cavity with some dissolving gauss soaked in what i think is oil of cloves by the taste and this has immediately given me a lot of relief from the pain so i am hoping that it will sort it along with an extended corse of antibiotics and it will be nice if i can knock off the co codamol completely...got a bit of an apologetic grovel email to write to the practice manager now...but she was very nice about it....just goes to show you cant believe everything you see.;)

Any strong spirit lightly warmed is the only cure before the dentist, I would usually take the piss but dentists are the only thing in the world I’m scared of.

    Good luck

I had a small pocket of infection a few years ago.
It wasnt a problem and really the only symptom was if I bit down very hard, it felt tender. This continued for a long time.
I asked the dentist about anti-antibiotics and was told
"the doctor was the person to see"
I went to the doctor, some time later about another issue, and mentioned the situation to him.
He said "I dont know why you were told that, the Dentist can prescribe"

Next time Im at the dentist I bring this up, and get no further forward.

Time passes and I read an article about how a long term infection can damage your heart, or some such thing.

Around this time the dog gets an infection in his tail from a cut, and when I look at his medication, it is in fact Penicillin. I cut all the pills in 1/2 and gave them to the dog, his tail healed quickly and he still had most of this pills left so I waited a couple of weeks to make sure he was healed.

Then I scoffed the rest of his pills and cured my infection, job done.

You want to be careful where you put your tail James, especially if you don’t want another infection in it

Glad the dogs antibiotics worked for you and your tail
