I purchased an X decat pipe from tec products for my 2019 Speed Twin and fitted it today using the video as a guide which really helped.

I took it for about 5 miles tonight and it is popping and banging a lot on the overrun at low revs but pulls well.

The question is what is the correct procedure to relearn the ECU or will it do this itself over time as it obviously isn’t running correctly ?

    Any help would be great.

P.S it has SC project cans with the baffles fitted

    thanks Ady

I thought the ECU needs to learn the changes made by removing the Cat ?
i am just not sure on the correct procedure.

without the cat you basically got straight through pipes. you can remap all you want it will still pop and bang.

Which SC Project cans did you use? Thruxton? They don’t advertise the Speed twin on their website. I’m looking for some shorter cans for mine. So far weslake seems to be the only thing I can find, which I like but I’d like more options...

    Try this reset:

    Engine must be cold.
Start up, not using the throttle.
Leave idling until the fan kicks in (don’t touch throttle)
Idle for a further 12 minutes
    Turn off.

Let us know if it works for you.

    Hi Guys,

Need 2 cycles of cold to hot to reset ECU. If you follow Marks process , leave 15 minutes and then take for a ride, you will be good next day (or follow Mark’s process 2x with a break in between).
I have no cat and only basic baffle tube, only pops after major decelerations

I have SC Project exhausts on my Thruxton. Had ECU reset done correctly.
Pops and bangs like hell when decelerating.
Baffles in or out, makes no difference.
    Runs perfect.
    I like it that way!

Not made any changes to my speed twin other than the V&H exhaust and it pops on the over run.... I like it :):)

My Street Twin is much the same. TEC end cans and a Motone decat. I did the warm-up bit as described above but it still pops on the overrun. I've emailed George Milburn at TEC Parts about it, to see if he thinks it's ok. He's on his hols atm so I don't expect a reply for a few days. However it's reassuring to hear others say it won't cause any damage.
