I have a question for the experts here. I am thinking of getting either a motorcycle trailer or a carrier to carry my Thunderbird. What are the opinions and advice here on this? Should I get a carrier or a trailer? Trailer means extra toll but I suppose that is the only downside? Carrier looks a bit more complicated but no extra toll for sure. I have never used either of these before.
    Thank you

Hi Davvid, probably a little lost in Canadian translation but what do you mean by carrier?

The one that is hitched on the back of a vehicle like a bicycle carrier. The motorcycle is carried the same way as a bicycle.

Get a good old transit van. I just don't thrust those contraptions. You are strapping your bike down and straining every bit of it causing leaking fork seals and never found one of those straps that didn't work itself loose eventually. Look at the stress on those bars and rear shock.

If you can get a carrier strong enough to take a Tbird, I'd go for that. But that's just cos I hate towing stuff, after a caravan went all jack-knife'y on me

Be interested to see a carrier that does, you got one in mind? Come retirement, our plan is to strap a bike to the back of a van, or put inside and go tour Europe for 10 years.

My boy had a tranny van. He had a rack the bike wheeled straight into then straps around the wheels. The back wheel locked into something that looked like one of those skate type thingies. and then the bike was on the side stand and strapped to the van side where there was small handles fitted.
    Regards
    Joe.

Cheers everyone. Yes I think I will use a trailer too. It is certainly more safe and it is how some of the bike companies move their bikes. Of course they have covered trailers that can take a couple of bikes. For the toll charges and for the ferry payments it is still worth I guess to get a trailer instead of trying to get it on a carrier.
