Without starting a new thread i wanted to talk about oil and filter change, i use Motul 5000 10W-40 4T Motorcycle Engine Oil in my Yamaha FZ6 so it would be more conveniant to use the same in my thruxton R but looking at the triumph website , triumph only recommend castrol, has anyone else done an oil and filter change on their thruxton recently, i really do hope so, as its all part of the fun of owning a motorcycle doing the maintenance yourself aint it. If you have what oil did You use ? and filter brand? Genuine triumph? K&N?
All the same stuff matey, as long as you pour in the correct grade.Either fully or part synthetic, must meet API SH or higher, you can also use JASO MA fully synthetic. Motul, Castrol, Shell, Putoline
I always use the manufacturer’s branded filter, but have picked an oil that satisfies all my bikes requirements. I’m now using Motul 7100 10-50 in the ThruxtonR and the other brands taking up space in my garage. Simplifies life!
I use Castrol semi synthetic 10w40 not because it’s better than anything else it was on special for 25 litres as long as it’s got the correct ratings and specs they all seem to do pretty much the same job. I do replace oil and filters more regularly than the service intervals I change both every 1000 but you don’t have too
Just under 2k, I really should have more but never seem to get the chance. So I get in the garage and do a bit n the bike. But I tell you what you buy a second hand bike off me it’s always like new, just a toy for when I get a minute not an everyday runner

Yeah I’d love to ride more, sounds stupid but I have to move two cars out of the way. Not mine, just to get the bike out and I always end up doing something else
Similar here... after moving cars I can get the bike out and do a 20 mile commute on great roads - when the weather is good and I have no external meetings. Rarely have the chance at the weekends as the wife likes to ‘do things together’ (which don’t include bikes)
Yep last weekend I was at a Shire horse show, I thoroughly enjoyed myself but would’ve preferred a ride out
Thats where i am lucky i suppose, my wife likes going out on the bike, we do that quite often, but she dont dont the cold, we go off to the pub for lunch or sometimes a picnic somewhere .
I bought a Rentec rack to put the tent and roll bag on for lightweight camping in the UK and abroad. Cost about £100 and it has been well worth it compared with other luggage options. Looks ugly and I take it off when not touring - takes about an hour to fit or remove. I don't mind that because I spend a lot more time than that cleaning the bike. Tried various panniers including Triumph's but they cannot hold enough for my needs but they may be fine if you are travelling pretty light.
Hello Thruxm, i was thinking a matt black rack i would just fit and leave it fitted, always nice to be able to carry things even if its a bit of shopping. Perhaps when you get time we could see it.

Hi Spacefrog, Apologies for taking a while in getting back - I've been away. Here's a few pics including one where I really loaded up for camping in France. Rack bed is about 12" x 10" at its widest points and I believe you can even get adaptors to put a topbox on should you really want to do so. It was available in chrome or the black which just about matches the colour of the frame. You'd have to spray it if you need it matt black. You have to drop the rear mudguard to fit or remove it - bolts go from the inside into the same thread in the frame used by the top shock bolts. I have been thinking of a slot arrangement in the rack to avoid dropping the mudguard but I don't think it will be as strong so haven't pursued that further. Cheers, Mark
