I am exploring the possibility of trading my near mint '95 Honda Night Hawk for a .'72 Bonneville T120 that is not running and has sat for awhile. I have started a conversation about it with the son of the owner and am excited about the possibility. I recently brought the Night Hawk back from a long "sleep" after one of my best friends passed away suddenly: rebuilt carbs, new hydraulics to the front, new tires, etc. My buddy had it sitting in his garage unused for a decade or more. His widow gave it to me when she cleaned-out her house. It is my fourth cycle with a Harley, two previous Hondas (including a CL450 I brought back from Japan in '71) and a BMW R75/5. My automobile taste favors English cars and I have owned ten Jaguars, including my current '99 XK8, and a '74 Triumph Spitfire 1500 which is the fourth Triumph automobile I've owned. The Jaguar and Triumph (cars) forums I am a member of have been great for providing answers to questions I have when doing most of my own work. I hope that this forum will be as valuable if I can acquire the Bonneville. .
Good morning James and welcome in. Good luck with your decision and ride safe and enjoy! Good looking Nighthawk too.
Thank you all for the great welcome. I hope this swap for the Bonney will work out. Attached is a photo of my Triumph Spitfire 1500 and her stablemate Jaguar XK8. I have a weakness for red cars from Coventry.
Again, thanks for the warm reception. I just found out that the Bonneville deal is off. The owner, who had it stored in the fellow I knew's garage, thinks it can be retrofitted with an electric starter so it has been taken to a local specialty motorcycle shop to see how much it will cost to get it running again and possibly retrofit and electric starter, if that is even possible. I had hoped to get that Bonney for a winter project, but will have to keep looking.
It's much later from the time I originally started this thread and I was not able to work a trade for that 73 Bonnie. But, I just bought a 71 Triumph Tiger to restore from a good friend and I still have the NightHawk!
James E Preuss. Welcome to the family. Nice Honda I do like the nighthawk I did have a couple of 650's.And you got a great project there. I would lose those cans if it were mine and replace with Reverse cone Norton silencers but that is just me. Do your rebuild on the projects and rebuilds and we will all be there with you. Regards & Ride Safe Joe.
