Looks like the law is changing back again from next year. "From January 1st 2016, bikers in France will be required to carry a high visibility jacket by law or they will face a fine up to €135. Next year French police can demand bikers show a yellow bib (gilet jaune) or face fining from €11 – it could escalate to nearly £100 in the incident of a breakdown. There is no obligation on bikers to wear their hi vis at all times but just to carry it on you. Hi vis jackets, shirts, vests and bib carrying a CE mark for luminosity are acceptable but reflective armbands or stripes will not. The law applies to one and all so British bikers will be met with a lighter wallet if they don’t abide to the new regulation."
This is not the big deal it sounds. The idea is that you have a hi-viz thing with you, in case you break-down. It's exactly the same requirement as with cars and trucks. I have one folded up in my havesack always. Have NEVER been asked to produce it.
In the end its about safety they are trying to save lives, I wear one every time I ride looks quite trendy too.
Couldn't disagree with either of those comments. All I wanted to do was to show the "actual" legal requirement in France -not something in the Daily Snog or whatever it's called.
Daily snog reminds me of being 16 and awkward ... tee hee ... your info helped me on my tour big guy so Chanks
Not a problem for me either as I'll be wearing mine on my trip to Deutschland next week. Biglad will know, but with the car, don't you have to carry the vest in the car not the boot?
Hi Steve, yes that's what some people say, but mine is always in the boot of the car and I've never needed to use or produce it by "Les Poulets"
I got pulled over by the police just outside of Orleans , they just pointed out one of my bungee cords had pinged off at the back & my tent had slipped , I had all my docs , driving licence, insurance & reg doc ready in tank bag with passport , breathalysers, high viz top, first aid kit , bulb kit etc but they didn't want to see any of it , and after a quick chat about my bike & where I'd been they wished me bon voyage & went in the services for a cuppa , they were the only police we saw the whole time over there to be honest apart from 2 bike cops going the other way who waved . I get the impression their only interested in high speeding bikers who are riding like knobs
