Why on earth didn’t he join the police force and become a police motorcyclist instead of trying to impersonate a police officer with his polite hi vis and white BMW. I personally think it’s a cry for help. I wonder if he has any other dressing up fetish’s
Well all the bloody women horse riders where I live take over the roads two abreast with those bloody ‘polite’ hi viz! It’s not polite to ride horses like that!
Well they just want to put him back on his secure ward. What a n-b. I will have to throw mine away now. ( joking ) I may be simple but not that bad. Regards Joe.
It’s simple to sort out... blue light emergency services get to wear yellow neon hi-viz, licensed worker (highway maintenance etc) get to wear green, safety conscious road users (horse riders, cyclists, motorbikers, broken down cars etc) get to wear pink neon hi-viz! Fines for all who wear them wrong
Oh dear! As I’m a tight fisted git I’d be reluctant to throw away my helmet and waterproofs that have yellow hi viz on them, maybe the government would give us a £1500 trade in if we swapped to pink!
He has even put tape or something on his helmet where a police helmet has graphics/text, that level of detail proves intent impo.
Well on the flip side should a copper impersonate a civilian when on duty?? Is there a £750 fine for that?
You may laugh, but this is pretty close Yoko Unisex Premium Hi-Vis Waistcoat Vest / Jacket (3XL) (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B64CNJ0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bMjbDb3RDZ6N8
Personally DD I would agree with you. It is definitely a good thing if we can be seen better whilst riding, and I doubt anyone would disagree, but what’s wrong with a normal hi-vis vest without the writing and checks? I think the derision here is because this guy was so obviously trying to look like a bike copper it seems ludicrous that he got away with it (relatively) and is now trying to garner some sympathy for the fallout of his actions. I have none for him.
I personally don’t despise people who wear them, I just think they look like a twat. Much like I think cyclists who wear team sky clothing or football fans wearing their latest money making tops look like twats... but that’s my personal opinion, they probably think my socks and sandals, baggy cardigan with leather buttons and elbow patches allows the needle of derision point in my direction. However, the point of the police uniform is in its name... uni= singular, form= type/format. This means they can be easily identified and related to (in this case) as the police. And it’s wearing or impersonation of is protected by legislation (police act 1996, part V; sec 90) which most people are aware of. So just like me being caught speeding, I was in the wrong and though it’s frustrating... just gotta suck it up instead of whining to the press about it. Edit- rereading the article- he is whining to the press about it, but after the national press had made up theirs own version of events
I agree with Andy, I experience the same thing when riding a liveried blood bike, some people see you in their mirrors and do a bit of a panic, be it because they’re on their phone or speeding, then when you pass them they notice you’re not police so they drive aggressively right up your arse or trying to race you at lights, if the same applies for the polite vests then they are not helping your or others safety because an angry motorist is a danger to all
Each to their own I say. It's no skin off my nose if people want to ride around in a "polite" jacket. It's not my choice. Call em twats if you want to but there's thousands of twats on the roads that a far more dangerous.
DD is right. More conspicuity is always better. Ignorant, stupid, mouth breathing distracted drones who can't read will notice the hi-viz. His undoing was complaining after being stopped. What paranoid over regulated EU horsecrap. PINK???? Pussies!!!! My son in the US Air Force gave me a couple black Air Force t-shirts that have large POLICE on the back & a breast positioned Air Force logo on the front. I've worn them a few times at events & had cops stop me & ask about them. I'm 68 & when I explain they thank my son for serving & walk off. I live in Nevada, USA. I think I'll go out in the desert now & fire off some rounds from a few defense weapons.
