Hi all I' been a member for a while now but a scary experience prompted me to ask if any one has suffered a weave at over 70 mph I had a scare this weekend on my T100 SE while overtaking a four wheeler, can anyone give me a reason why this happens and if so how to cure the problem, thanks benbo.
Worth checking tyre wear and pressures. Where you sit on the bike can affect this too. Tight steering bearings or other chassis bearings. If tyres bearings etc good Maybe go somewhere traffic free and run up to that speed and see what happens with a slight wiggle of the bars. Move on the seat to see what affect that has. Also maybe when overtaking a bow wave may have affected stability.
Thanks for the information RSReggie, the pressures in thr tyres are correct, I have jacked the front up and checked the steering bearings , there is no play there and the sreering is very smooth, I'm wondering if the top box could be part of the problem as it does say to keep to or below 120 kph or 75 mph, which is at that speed is when the problem appeared, so, I am away for all of next week so I will try again, mabey slight adjustments on the rear shocks might help, thanks again, Benbo.
Check forks for any signs of misting. I had an X11 that lost oil on one side and the bike was a bucking bronco at speed.
Same sensation when passing an 18 wheeler ( lory ) on a beemer with a top box. Nothing wrong with the bike, just the way the wind whips with a top box.
Benbo What I usually do as well is loosen the mudguard bounce and twist the front forks sometimes it just evens things up at the front. And make sure the forks are dead level in the head stock and correct oil levels and correct grade oil. Ride Safe Joe.
I would be amazed if there is an issue with the bike itself. As already mentioned my money is on air pressure changes before, during & after overtaking the lorry. It would be very easy overthink this & allow this experience to mess with your head whilst riding.
T100 SE? What manner of hybrid is that? Wheel size? My R100RS was very steady but overtaking some trucks could induce a weave but ONLY when the panniers were fitted.
In an effort to reduce bike weave with luggage fitted some bike manufacturers top box racks are a sliding carriage, including Triumphs. In other words with the top box fitted to a sliding carriage the top box will move slightly sidewards with varying side wind pressure in an effort to reduce bike weave.
It's gods way of telling you Top Box's are fugly and have no place on a beautiful bike like the Bonnie True fact, hope that helps
