Have had my Thruxton R for almost 2 months and am loving it. Just decided to change stock pipes for V&H US spec. Am I doing the right thing? Will there be a noticeable improvement in power/noise?
Mark Taylor. Welcome to the family. And simple answer is yes. Do show us a picture of the steed. And why don't you go on youtube and have to different options for end cans. I have the Norman Hyde pea shooters on my t100 and love them. There are so many different options it gives you a headache pondering what noise you like best. But I settled for mine as they had a fantastic gurgle. I also removed the air box snorkel. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe.
Mark Taylor. Love the pictures. Old 44 there looks pretty good. Tell us all more is it a 70 / 71 model. Do you race it. Regards Joe.
The classic is owned by a mate of mine. It was raced in the 1967 IoM production TT, with Lance Weil taking it to 4th.
Mark Taylor Thanks for that. Its a real cracking machine. Has had a lot of work done to it. Thanks for the pictures. Regards & ride Safe. Joe.
Hello Mark and welcome to the forum I remember American Lance Weil racing over here in the UK. If I remember correctly he was accused of using oversize engines whilst racing over here.
Well, the good news is that I bought some US spec V&H and fitted them and I have to admit that I am very pleased with the sound and performance. The throttle doesn't seem as twitchy as it was when I bought the bike.
here a couple of videos giving a sound check between the original Thruxton stock cans and then the new V&H cans with baffles and then without baffles. I still have the cat fitted and am advised that will make a huge difference if I replace the cat with an X pipe. Thoughts on whether I should do this please?
