After over forty years of riding sports bikes I have finally decided to call it a day and have sold my honda fireblade I am 62 this year and just feel its the right time. not that I can't ride them any more its just that you cannot get on these bike without going fast I got 6 points last year. and to be honest sportsbikes dont make any sense on the roads anymore so the blade is going and I just got me trusty trumpet not that I am hanging around on that lol.
It's true mate, riding a 200bhp Superbike on the road is overkill, the ease they go very fast leads you into temptation & anything over the ton can see you banned. Enjoy the Trumpet & ride safe
Enjoy the Speed Twin, a cracking bike, and all that matters is that you’re enjoying riding. As you say, sportsbikes don’t make much sense on our roads these days
You've had a good run there bob, riding sportsbikes into your sixties. Bought my one and only sportsbike, a Daytona 955i, when I was in my forties. I knew then after the 70 odd mile ride home on it I'd made a dreadful mistake. So uncomfortable on it sold it after about 6 months. It was the only time ive seen 165 on a motorcycle speedo though. Chap in my local RAT pack still riding sportsbikes now, well into his seventies. Doesnt hang around on them either.
52 years young here, and just sold my fireblade for a speed triple. Next step will be a classic style I think. Still riding, thats the main thing
This is exactly why I sold my Kawasaki ZRX1200. It after 2 police cars caught up with me one night, after a leisurely ride to work. The officer told me that Half of the police dept. were looking for me. Too much temptation and too much power is just a bad way to go! I sold her and went out and bought my first Harley. Talk about opposites.
Some of the best rides I've had are when I pack my photographic kit in the top box and go and get lost in the Hampshire countryside on my T100.
Did the same. There was only one dealership in D&G, a Suzuki dealership, so when first got interested in bikes, wandered in there and up on a podium was a 750 GSXR in blue/white (the ONLY colour). So when I got my first bike I went for an SV650, because it was reasonably sensible but still loads of fun, but really I wanted that Gixxer. Roll on 3 years, a wandering eye happened on a nice K7 750 gixxer and that was me smitten. It was too small for me and far more capable of going fast than I was, but I had to have one, I even said I will probably sell it after the one summer but had to be done. Kept it for 2 years and absolutely loved it. They are soooo much fun going quick. But you do soon realize , that unless you are going quick, they are really uncomfortable and they go quick far too easily ( I never dared look at the speedo when going very quick). So like many I gave up and moved onto the cruiser. Didn't take me long, but came to the same conclusion, I was either going to lose my licence, or come a cropper. Funnily enough, I slowed down and came a cropper !!!! So went back to a quick bike, a bit more comfortable, but you at least feel like your doing 100+ when you are doing 100+, not like the Gixxer
Ooooh! You can be such a bitch sometimes , but I know you're trying to drive me to the alcohol & Pie stash, because you want to win the fatties challenge No Cigar this time Dilli, but treat yerself to couple of nice cold beers instead!
Exactly the same age I sold my VFR800 and bought my Speedmaster, once too often going to, coming back from work in Chelmsford looked down and saw 120-130!! realised it was madness after nearly getting shunted by an A3 doing at least 130 another time. Now taking time to see the scenery on the A130 and A12 now in the slow lane. Most of the time
