Thanks got message. Have been away. Update is I did the float bowl levels again just to check as a poster raised it and I thought I will check I have done it right. Bike still only firing on one side, other side is intermittent. On Monday it stopped firing all together. Have sent the pickup and coil back to supplier for testing as that has to be where the fault is.
Try this with the engine running just give the carb on cylinder that is not running right a slight tickle and see if there is any change at all.
OK does it change if you try and choke it slightly with your hand? If nothing happens either way i would go back to suspecting the spark, Darkmans question on a helicoil is based on the coil being fitted using some sort of thread lock that's insulating the plug earth, but it is a long shot.
Thorspark supply a 6v or a 12v kit. Any chance they sent you the wrong voltage kit? You mentioned you fitted one to another bike which works fine? Can you swap them over and see if the good one solves the problem? Phone Thorspark and discuss it with them? Taff
Sadly other bike up north in storage so can’t get access. Have sent the parts back. Awaiting them to test them and see what happens. It’s a pain because I have been asked to exhibit the bike at the Dorset Steam Fair and I need a runner . Time is a ticking to get it sorted and do a full shake down before the show as the bike has had a major overhaul.
Hi I have an update. Finally have a working bike. As the thread suggests not much I haven’t tried. The other day clinched it finally. Ran the bike and timing side exhaust cold so not running. Left side normal, but naturally bike running terrible. Took plugs out and spark on both plugs with petrol on the timing side. Bought some iridium plugs and hey presto problem sorted. Bike running a dream and timed up. It would appear the plugs were failing under compression. Put 4new plugs in this bike and same problem. Changed plug spec and it appears sorted. It has taken nearly 2 months and many frustrated hours. Knew it had to be something simple and I think I have tried everything available. Have even put a new wiring loom in and soldered every joint. I suppose the bike and my knowledge the better for the experience. Now I can ride it it’s damn raining. Thanks to all those who had an input.
That's good to know...out of interest what plugs where being used? some makes/types dont like getting carboned up from rich mixture or oiling and start playing up fitting new or thorough cleaning usually sorts it...not sure how well iridium will stand up to rich mixtures of classic fueling.
They were B8ES which were in the handbook and recommended. No doubt loads of posts say how great they are. Cleaned a new plugs still caused problem. I am sure your right about iridium plugs, but st least I now know what the problem is.

Thanks! i was curious as i use NGK in my T160 and its runs a bit rich but i never have much of a problem...but then i run hotter plugs to combat fouling problems.
There’s lots of counterfeit spark plugs around these days apparently, maybe you’ve been unlucky to get some.
Would you recommend a thorspark unit? I have a Lucas Rita mag replacement on another bike which is great but no longer available. I’m thinking of installing a thorspark in my 6t scrambler. Sounds like your woes were not thorspark related so keen to try one.
