Fitted a new rear carrier yesterday. Took a LOT longer than expected as there was a Triumph Rear Grab Rail already fitted - probably should have titled this thread Bonneville Rear Grab Rail Removal! After looking at the carrier and reading the brief instructions it looked like a 20 minute job - remove the seat, then just 4 screws at the back and the 2 upper suspension bolts the only attachment points. Turned out though that the existing grab rail is attached at the back (inner) side of the top suspension mount, not the outer as with the carrier. And there is no access to even see what's holding it on let alone work on it. After removing one of the rear suspension units improved access not at all I resorted to google and leant I'd have to take the rear mudguard off. Instructions on line included disconnecting the battery and the rear light cluster but this turned out not to be necessary as once the mudguard retaining screws were released there was more than enough length in the light cluster cable to permit the mudguard to be lowered and slid back onto the rear tyre to give sufficient access to the inner suspension mounts where the grab rail was attached. The only issue then was releasing the screws - a bit like allen bolts but with a star shaped instead of a hex socket - and it was lucky I had the right tool as they were all thread locked and took a huge effort to move. The wrong tool would have destroyed the screws - and left me 'screwed'! The Bonneville certainly seems to 'suit' a carrier - even the wife mentioned it 'looks nicer' Anybody want a slightly used grab rail?
Sounds like a right palaver BB for a simple accessory!! Big lad, you still wanting some handle bars?? Remember one of our older chats? Eric
Hi BB, I live in France but I'm coming to England in 2 weeks. I'll be visiting many parts of England but the most north will be Leeds. Dave
Hi Eric, I do remember there was some conversation about bars but I can't remember the details. Can you please remind me what you've got? I know I need 1" diam. bars for my T100. Cheers Dave
Yes France, it's another country just south east of England with 4 times the land mass and the same population plus a French-owned successful car industry.
Oh well BB not meant to be. Dave, those bars are 7/8 (22mm). If you want I'll sort you a 1"set but let me know in time. Don't know about price (although it'll be Yorkshire prices). Flat or slightly raised? E
Heard of it - other end of a tunnel - mountains and ski slopes, empty roads, big on sailing, and oh - my employer based there!
