To be fair, if I sounded like Heidi Klum I'd have a problem. Thank you :)

Yeah, I've had real issues in terms of keeping that surface rust off it. I'm going to try a new (gearbox oil) lubing routine with the new one and see if that works (along with doing it once a week).

What is your chain care regimen? With o ring chains internal lubrication is ‘for life’ and the various sprays are intended to both lubricate the external roller faces and protect from corrosion.

I was using Wurth dry wax lube - maybe every two to three weeks. Whatever I was doing wasn't working, anyway, so I'm going to give it a light application of oil (brushed on) every weekend now, and hopefully that'll do the job.

I find the u shaped brush reaches parts only a heavy over spray otherwise reaches - and the occasional buff up with WD40 helps spread oil/wax lubricant and protectively coats the side plates.

Every cloud got a silver lining, but not every bike got lovely exhaust:)
And as it was mentioned earlier the bike needed new chain and spockets any way, so you shoot two birds with one arrow :) and with all the upgrades you will have more smiles per mile

No was born in Lancashire but sought asylum in the South when I was 4. I learnt the language and can now speak colloquial posh, own two Labradors and a tatty waxed jacket.

I think it important to integrate.

Well, Ive just heard back from the RAC, saying cover for the costs of the relay wasn't provided because the damage was the the result of a RTC, and as such should have been sought through my insurers. I've obviously put them right on that and have told them to pay up or face the matter being referred to the small claims court.

I'll update you as and when!

In other news, I think I've identified the problem I was having with regard to the old chain and surface rust.

I was soaking the chain in chain cleaner, and then using a chain brush that I was dipping in a bucket of water throughout the cleaning process to get the gunk off. I guess the use of water was a mistake. :worried:

    Okay, an update:

Thank you for your e-mail. The terms and conditions of your membership state that any accidental damage, road traffic collisions or vandalised incidents aren't covered under your breakdown entitlements. These are classed as insurable incidents.

Unfortunately, we can't agree to any refund on this occasion.

Well, that's interesting... I just checked the benefits I get with my NatWest account, and it has full breakdown assistance included. In fact, it specifically INCLUDES recovery following accidents, vandalism, accidental damage etc.

I think I feel even more stupid now, as I had no idea that I had this cover.

Bit of a horse bolted, stable door comment coming I'm afraid but if I put a disc lock on my bike then I put the lock key and the bike key into the disc lock bag as a reminder it's on. Too late for this one but saved me a few times :worried::worried:
Glad it all got sorted though :cool:

Thanks for that, but I've actually bought one of those reminder cord thingies now so I'd have to be an even bigger plonker to do it again :no_mouth:
